No matter what brand of rc you drive, what brand you are faithful to, as long as you're having fun that's all that matters!

Get outta here, are you telling me this hobby is for people to have fun? I guess I better start having fun then.

IMO i really hnestly think Traxxas is the GREATEST Rc MANUFACTURER OUT THERE ATM, all the points he listed are absolutely true, but as the other guy said the plastic is sometimes considered to be greater than the steel as in terms of the driveshafts where it might be better to buy the plastic each time than the steel>

no just no to the drive shafts
99.9% of the time steel is better(not talking that cheap ass steel btw). Only time this is not true is on crawlers that need sliders due to the massive articulation, bbut seeing we are talking about traxxas, and they don't make a crawler sliders should just go away.
This is especially true in traxxas's as their MAIN weakness is the crappy ass drive shafts that like to break. Lets see replace a set of steel CVD's once a season that is metal for $25ish a pair or replace 7-8(depending on model some don't last this long) $16 a pair of drive shafts in the same time (price taken off the pede/ slash 4X4 axle cost). Yea the traxxas ones are such a steal...
No thank you I'd prefer steel.

Also the drive shafts I find are probably one of the few negatives on the stampede 4X4 outside that its a pretty decent RC. Seriously why keep the sliders make a decent CVD setup like almost every other RC has in the price point traxxas's are in.
Only reason I can think Traxxas keeps them is the insane profit they make selling replacements.

Side note I dunno how I missed that post.

mgt 8.0 for $470 rtr has all metal gears (even spur) and CVD's on every corner and even the centers are CVD and they do not break or wear out every month like traxxas, it also has aluminum skid plates stock and a metal gear steering servo- traxxas makes steel CVD's as a upgrade, so your spending another $100 or so to add cvd's and another $30 for a aluminum spur and another $40 for skid plates and $30 on a metal gear servo on a truck that cost the same amount just to compare it to a MGT, and then after you spend all that cash your still left with a relatively small, slow, weak truck that will get its but whooped in all areas by the MGT and savage

its all about parts and upgrades with traxxas, they are smart I will give them that.

Which Traxxas model are you comparing the MGT to? On my E-Revo I spent $50 on front and rear aluminum skid plates and $100 on a servo, the steel CVDs only cost me $60 though. I can't say I'm a fan of metal spur gears, the plastic ones only cost $3 and they hold up pretty good, plus it's good to have a weak spot in the drivetrain. The Traxxas diffs wouldn't hold up so well to a metal spur if you ask me.

guessing the pede 4X4 for that price range

Isn't the MGT a nitro?

yes, its a nitro with a .50 engine and too much power. I was comparing it to the t-maxx, but it also makes the revo look small in comparison. the drivetrain is bulletproof, full throttle landings with the slipper locked, no issues. I broke the hardened steel spur after I ported it (slipper locked at the time) and the rest of it survived, replaced the spur ($9.00) and loosened the slipper a smidge, a gallon in after that and no issues, rolled it like a tumbleweed with a few sideways landings- nothing else has broken in 2 gallons and it was used when I got it.

honestly, this is my favorite r/c I have ever had, its just so much fun, associated knocked this one out of the park and it really doesn't get enough notice, maybe they will release a E version, it would be easy for them to do.

The T-Maxx and E-Maxx aren't so great IMO. The MGT might be a little bit bigger than the E-Revo but I don't think it would make it look small, the MGT's wheelbase is only 1cm longer and it has an extra 2cm in width and 3cm in length but the E-Revo is over 1.5kg lighter, without batteries of course. It would be good to see a side by side pic. All in all the MGT does look like a pretty good truck but I would only be interested in a BL electric version and then you would have to compare that to the MT4.

i have multiple hpi, losi and tamiya rc's, and traxxas.  contrary to one poster here, i'd buy another traxxas, based on my experience with these brands.  for me, the traxxas cars do what they are supposed to do.  i don't see inferior build quality, either.  even a plastic car like the merv seems well put together.
