Hello Matt

Not yet. I'm very interested by this engine to install in a new pattern we have in project with friend of mine.
The project is to design and built a entire economic scratch build plane for young modelists I learn to fly dual every week end.

I got 7650 with a Xoar 19x8 and 7050 with an APC 19x11 today. It was pretty hot and humid. Stock muffler and DLE 30 ignition on a 14 lb Cap 232. I have about 10 eight min flights so far. Runs great, muffler leaking on the side is my only complaint.

7K on muffler, 19x11 apc, is fairly good. Should pick up 400-500 on pipe. 7400-7500 on pipe should be about the same as the YS170 delivers, maybe a tad better, except it's gasoline not 25% nitro glow.... The YS's are terrific powerplANTS BUT THESE LATEST GASOLINE 2 STROKE OFFERINGS ARE TRULY WORTH A SECOND LOOK....Ooooops, sorry for the caps, I'm not screaming

Matt, how do the bore/stroke/porting compare to the OS?

I could imagine that you might have the most optimal gasser pattern set-up on the planet right now with the OS.

But DLE seems to be taking a crack at it!

Bob,

Not sure about the porting of the DLE....The bore/stroke of the DLE is about 1.27 (quite a bit overbore), while the same for the OS is 1.1 (closer to square). That doesn't mean all that much without porting data tho. Port timing and cross sectional areas of passages are most critical. Exhaust porting is critical for pipe use and boost as well. Compression ratio also is very important

Nevertheless, the DLE35RA appears to produce similar output to the OS, based on this one data point the earlier poster presented.... I will probably get one to see for myself what it does on pipe. I have a 50$ coupon from Tower so that brings the cost more in-line with most 30cc engines at around 300$.

The rear exhaust configuration works soooo much easier on pattern planes. No need to cant the engine to fit the header in the fuse; no need for an expensive Hatori RTC header, plus a stub header, or special shaped couplers to make things fit, etc. I believe the OS140RX Macs header from Tower should fit the exhaust of the DLE35 with only minor mods.

Husky gasser still on hold Matt? All the slimer vs electric posts this week get me wondering if your 100LL's will be the real "spoiler." cheers!

Vanquish is on the rafters of my garage. Much too humid and hot to work on anything right now. Can't hardly wait for Fall to get projects off my bench

With the price of glow fuel I'm seriously eye balling this engine as just an all around motor warbirds, pattern, aerobatic, etc. I gave electric a go but wasn't thrilled with the charge times and the power to weight didn't seam that great, even though the low hassle and 100% reliability were great.

There is at least one other option that I am very familiar with and close to. If you look in the Pattern Forum you will see my thread on the OS33GT. Some Europeans are also using the PTE36R in Pattern applications. I also have a PTE36R and that will go into a Vanquish conversion from electric

We finally have truly usable gasoline options in Pattern. These engines have terrific top ends but most importantly, have lots of grunt in mid range, where Pattern pilots like to fly.

To get the most out of Pattern gassie you should also consider soft mounting and using a pipe on the model. It's a sound similar to well tuned glow 2 strokes we're familiar with such as the OS140RX and Webra 145/160.

BTW- FWIW- My OS33 piped set-up uses the same props as YS170/175 do and turns these at similar rpm. If the YS170-175 are the defacto standard for glow Pattern, these gas engines are really worth a good look

Anything set up for glow power that has a full pipe belly. Or you may need to add a pipe floor to something less.

I suspect that anything set-up for electric will also be okay but will need some additional reinforcement around the engine compartment. That is as simple as adding some carbon cloth area to distribute the load better. The electric set-ups will also need a pipe floor added. I used 1/32" balsa glass laminate in past models. All else is the same

In my current design on the bench the pipe floor is blue foam/glass laminate.

If you are not sure, consider the EF Extra for gas'glow. It isn't a pattern plane but is a good teacher. It is very big and needs all the power it can get. The 33GT and the PTFE36 are good matches. And it is around 400$ plus shipping...cheap!

I had a soft mounted, piped DLE55 in mine turning a 20X12 Mezjlik 3 blade carbon prop. That was an amazing combo. Alas, a bad SpektruM RX ruined that one....BUT 12 1/2 lbs all up with around 36 lbs of thrust...sweeet! Gave new meaning to the term "throw around"

yeah i understand your point.
i fly imac now with a 40% carden and a da170 and my new plane is a carden 300 pro with a da200.

i haven't read all through this thread and others, but thought the dle35ra would be a good choice due to the rear exhaust port making a pipe easier to install.

i have a 50cc EF extra now that i could use for sportsman, but if i'm gonna fly pattern, i think i would rather use a pattern plane. so for now, i would like to get an arf or used plane and a gas engine and see where it goes.

also, how do you compare the header length for the 35 rear exhaust with a stub header with a side exhaust engine and a RTC header?

The length that works really well with the 30-40cc engines is 27" from the exhaust flange to the reflector baffle. It doesn't matter whether you have a rear or side exhaust...you follow the exhaust path to make the measurement

yeah thats what i thought, so for a given pipe, the overall length would be much longer for rear exhaust engine!
