Looks really good. Did you use the sponge or hair spray method to get your warn/chipped look on the paint. I think the main gun shield looks the best and I know you mentioned that you used the AK equivalent to the hair spray method on it. Just wondered if you did the same on the rest of the tank. Are you going to leave the main gun tube naked metal?

I used both the sponge, and the chipping fluid for different parts as well as a brush to creat some chipping effects. The main gun I was deciding what to do with. I think it will stay in the dark primer color. At least I think so....

No Scott. The Elephant will be sold without electronics, unless the buyer opts for them.

I finally got the axle for the last road wheel and installed it today. I then got the tracks on and adjusted. All looks to be good. I will test the drive on blocks with a power supply again to make sure everything is aligned correctly.

Excellent work.
You always have interesting projects in the works and I always enjoy reading your posts.
Have you tried any of the DVD's from AK?
I was tempted, but I had already blown my budget on my last project.

Thanks a lot everyone. Coming from you guys, it means alot to me.
Dave, I do have some of the AK DVD's. I bought them recently to see if I can learn some new tricks. They are incredibly informative. AI feel your pain on the budget thing. Trust me, I don't know what a tank budget is these days...I am trying to find a cheap project to play with so I have something to keep me busy. Perhaps some kind of half track conversion???

Joe, you do an amazing job on weathering and texturing. Your models look like 1;1 scales.

Panther is right....your work is incredible, but the "Ferd or 'phant" was a terrible design and a big failure. Someone should have listened to Guderian and added anti personnel MGs. .

Hey, good project...build a T-25.

Thank you PC on the compliments. In truth, I know very little on the history of the Elephant and Ferdinand. However, from what I gather, for the short tiume they were in service, the largest flaws were in breaking down rather than being knocked out of combat. the kill ratio was very high for these things. Perhaps they were not the greatest design of the time, but they have there place in history, none the less.
T-25??? Hmmm, I really want a halftrack. LOL

Everyone does the elefant down but in its final form it was very effective at what it was designed to, attack at long range whilst being immune to any incoming fire. They suffered at kursk due to inadiquate infantry support. Even with better anti personal defence and unsupported tank is vunerable. Why they where deployed to itally is beyond me, completely the oposite terrain to what they where most effective one.

So...it has beena long while since you guys have sen the Elefant. ETO has sold it since the last time it was posted, and to one of our own RCU members and an avid tanker.I have just about completed the electronics installation in the beast and will spend some of the day testing and videoing it in action. I took a couple of photos of the electronics layout. The stock battery box has been retained also. I also installed a custom smoke unit upon request of the new owner. I bent and ran some brass tubes to attach to the smoker's hoses and press fit them into the sponsons so the exhaust exits down onto the top of the tracks toward the fron of the tank. Enjoy guys. I will post a video when it's done.
