I recently traded for this AT-6 and the guy I got this from told me that the clear coat was messed up and he started to sand the clear down. Some of the really bad spots he sanded all the way to the wood but most of the places are just sanded alittle.

It seams to me that the nitro fuel was eatting at the clear and turning the off white into yellow. whats the best way to fix this problem? Sand all the clear off and reclear or do I have to same all the way down and reshoot the color?

You don't need to remove all the clear, just feather it out where it's not smooth with fine grit paper maybe 400 or 600, then do your touch ups, hopefully if your color match is good they will blend away seemlessly. once the aircraft is touched up scuff the whole thing with a red 3M scotch brite pad, wash with alcohol or a similar mild degreaser and re-clear. I would use a urethane type clear because typically they are more chemically resistant, But I have used water based clear with a cross linker that is also fuel resistant.

I am an aircraft refinisher by trade so I paint a lot of airplanes at work but I have more fun painting the models like these!

Most clearcoats will turn yellow with time so that's no bid deal.

I really liked Black Baron clear coat years ago. It would turn yellow in time though.

Some of the later Dynathust props had a defect.

The cheap manufacturer decided to save money by leaving out 1/2 the fiberglass.

They are known to break in flight. Dynathust went under because of this.

Anyway that was in the 90's so you know that prop is OLD!

Time to change out to a nice Master Airscrew Classic!
