Ok Ok Ok..

long post with irrelevant parts but has a point.... hah...

i read the stickys inside the forum topics too for general and electric...

so my son a while ago wanted to build a platform style boat to land a heli on with his friend. They were going to use 20oz soda bottles (to float) and wood (for platform)...
they tried many different things..

well that was a few months ago and maybe even last summer..

so now i got back into RC cars.. nothing drastic.. just an axial ax-10 scorpion RTR... few LITTLE upgrades (all metal all thread links w/brake lines, 4 link front and rear, ae-2 esc for drag brake, etc)..

anyway back on topic..

i replaced a few things on my axial... and also have a heli that i replaced the tx/rx in (rx died in it and was given a 2.4ghz setup)... have a 19T axial brushed motor, etc..

playing around I use the 6 channel (non 2.4ghz) TX, the broken RX (one of 2 channels isnt working) into the axial ae-1 esc, 19t brushed axial motor in... and it was to show my son you can take a mosh of parts and get it to work...

well it all works great... and it got me thinking...

i started to think i could make a barge style boat and 1 motor... with the platform.. but then thought more...

my goal is to now build 2 barges and lay the platform on top.. i figured a single barge would work but would be more stable with a dual setup and look cooler...

now my issue is this.. I do not know much/nearly enough about the electronics...

so lets start here..

parts needed
TX (have), RX (need), motor (have 1 19t brushed), esc (clueless here)

I would like to use my heli radio (from blade cp EFLH1046) as i could put 1 motor in each barge hull and use left stick for left motor and right for right motor...

I do not know what i would need to get this setup to work... 2 x esc? a single esc that allows for dual separate motors like I want to use?

lipo or non lipo dont matter to me.... brushed or brushless also doesnt matter...

since we are looking at a slow speed (torque based rig) school me if lipo or brushless is the way to go...

it will be a while before i get this done as im going away on vacation soon....

but to throw it out there.. im looking at making a pretty big barge.... 24x24 or 36x36...

appreciate it guys... just trying to get the understanding on electronics i will need...

and side note again... yes i could use a servo or 2 to control turning left/right.. my thinking was dual motors would give a better turn for what im doing... am i wrong.. should i just go simple with a single ESC with a Y adapter to run 2 motors and rely on rudder steering?

guess that is enough to start with..

got thinking for a minute...

so i get 2 esc... hook them to 2 motors, 2 batteries... but plug say esc1 into ch1 of rx and the other into ch3 (or whatever transmitter needs for that stick control)... is it that easy? maybe i over thought it???
not sure... i know it is a simple question....

Sounds like the simplest way to go.  If the ESCs are BEC equipped, its conventional to disconnect the red lead from the RX plug of one of them, so the 2 BECs don't start arguing.

i know these arent the cheapest but lets say..

2 x xl-5 esc's... $50 each... i dont know if they have an internal bec.. and if they dont.. then just plug each into the RX and go?

oh i gotcha.. so i can get something like this..

http://www.hobbyhot.com/HobbyHot-Waterproof-50A-Speed-Controller-ESC-for-Boat.html

get 2 of them.. $50... cant run lipo... has a low volt shutoff at 5v... but cut middle wire..

I would go brushed, like you seem to be going, I would think about the prop and motor before the ESC, but would probably be looking at either 385 motors or 5 pole speed 400s (same thing, really) running on whatever their rated voltage is or a bit less driving 35mm or thereabouts props.
ESCs - the cheapest might be expensive when replaced with working ones.
I am not familiar with those particular ESCs, but similar sounding ones have a reputation for poor low speed control.  I am familiar with mtronics Viper 15s, which will handle the power no problem, do have excellent low speed control, and price might be comparable where you are.  If the electric bits are in a waterproof box, they dont need to be waterproof themselves, and I have seen waterproof ESCs with internal components visible through the hole in the side, leaving me wondering what water is like where they come from, so mounting stuff in a snap top plastic box is good (cant say tupperware, copyright)
Whichever, dont cut the red, winkle the receptacle out of the housing and tape it back in a tidy manner.  That way, you can replace it should the need arise.
If the ESC doesn't have BEC, the RX will need either its own battery (usually 4 of AA cells in a holder, often supplied as part of the radio outfit) or a separate BEC to work off the main battery.

you can always use a y harness it will let you plug bolth speed controlers into one channel use 2nd channel for rudder
