The plane was set up with a DLE 55 and was a rocket ship.
My only negative comment is that the DLE 55 at full throttle makes this thing zip around like a .40 size on steroids.

I haven't flown when there have been multiple 50cc size war birds in the air at the same time, but it is nice to know that the plane isn't a slow one...

If you look in the forums from the p47, p-40, mustang ect.... they all make comments of how one of the war birds was faster than the others in the air.

Ever noticed that on freeways, when you pull up to someone in the slow lane, and you are going faster than they are, they tend to speed up, for no reason, other than
they don't want to be passed?

Competition is a inherent thing in all of us... It rears it's head in one form or another....

I plan on using a radial engine in mine, and do not plan on beating any speed records with it….
Although, I do plan on seeing how fast it will go, as some point,,

It's Here!...
The plane is in stock.... and shipping....

I regretfully will have to wait untill I thin down my fleet.... untill I pick this one up...
Right now I count over 10 Giant scale planes and most are still NIB....so ....
(It is a affliction of addiction)....I always want more.....and more planes....

Anyhow....
I have a TF GIant p-51 that I am modifying ( removable side wings (like the Giant Coarsair ARF)....
And have to finish it first....

I count over 1500$ into this plane Minus electronics and motor.... so it will be over 3Grand when done....

If I wanted a 100CC warbird, that might cover just the airfranm and not the retracts!... ... so the 50cc size is about right....

My only complant with this one is not having a wing setup like the corsair....I may mod this one so I can split the wings....
One piece wing can be a bit daunting at times...

You could put a prop shaft extension on the engine and that would allow you to move the engine back. Then after that you can make a dummy center case section to fill in and cover the extension

What is the cowl diamter of the TF 190?

Look in the above post....

quote:

ORIGINAL: danlandis

Justin,

I just heard back on the sizes of the cowl and engine. The OS is 9 inches across and the cowl where the cylinder heads would be measures 10 inches. and tapers down to 9.5

I have found the the decider of weather or not a radial engine will fit w/o moding is the taper...
The radials do not have much length in the prop shaft..so the taper can cause fitment issues...
I belive my saito 325 needs 8 or 8.5 inches at taper... so all is well...

Here is a good video of a 1/5 fw 190 (Dave platt kit) that was done up really nice....
Had a UMS/EVOLUTION ... (I think his was a original german made siedel 7-70) radial....

Gives great ideas for this plane....
And I wouldn't have the time to do all of this ....
I perfer the TF FW-190.... ARF

It's a Holman kit, not a Dave Platt. Platt's kit is an all wood construction. If memory serves me, Invert wanted more power and lately stated that he was placing a DLE55 in it soon or even going electric..

I think if I were to place a radial engine in this kit, I would absolutely make it accessible like Invertmast did just for simple ease and conveniences at the field. I would have all three scale openings.

What type of radial are you going to place in it...???

My saito 5cyl doesn't have much in the maintence dept... except for filling up the crank vent with trany fluid.,.... and give it quite a few flips....

Nitro really rusts these radial out....

It has covers on the valve rockers.... as not needing oil like the UMS/evolution/seidel needs...

My statement was purely hypothetical. I wouldn't want one simply because, most of my planes, when they do die.. It was nose first!

Well after one afternoon the 190 is about 1/4 done. Aileron and flap servos installed, gear and doors installed and first thing tomorrow the wing will be joined. Horz stab and rudder installed. No problems with anything, this is a nice ARF. I expect to have all the flight controls done before noon. I had to send my radio back for a check up yesterday so I cant get everything wiggling yet. Should have them back next week and by then I should just about be finished with the assembly. The only thing I dont like about it is the stick on camo. Oh well, it is an ARF. Sorry, no pix.

Just saw Tower list Robart electric retracts for FW-190. Ship date did move to Sept., guess we will have to wait to see if they move it out again.

I'm betting January at the earliest.

Lost the bet this time...

WTG TopFlight! Pushed this one out quickly.

Day 2. Wings joined. All servos installed for elevator/rudder/steering/tail retract. The motor spacers are curing right not and the motor should be mounted tomorrow. Not much more for a few days as I am back to work tomorrow afternoon. I did run into a small problem today. The tail wheel retract was too big for the stringers in the tail..had to shave them down to get it to fit. Also there is a small spring that goes on the Robart retract unit that is easyily overlooked. Overall I'm still very pleased with the kit.

Got mine in yesterday, however I too am finishing a project (1/3 Fokker D7).I did open up the box to see if everything was intact and everything looked good.I also wanted to see if a Saito 450 I have would fit and it does just fit with less than half an inch clearance.I'm not going to use this engine but would possibly consider a FG 84 when it comes out.I'm thinking the 84 may not fit if the spark plug caps are higher than the valve covers...

What was the reason not to use the radial engine.??
Reliability issues/??

I am eagerly awaiting to see what the price will be on that gas radial.... I hope it is priced like it's newest twin, the fg57... Where the
price of the gas twin is same or less than the Glow version!.....

I plan on breaking my radial on a GP giant aeromaster....
Huge amound to Wing area( almost 1900 sq inc's) So dead sticks are not as a concern as it would be with this buet....
As that plane will land like a feather... (less than 15lbs if I remember correctly)

The 450 I have I bought used on RCU about 10 years ago,it never ran very good for me plus it burned about 50 oz in one flight.I think it had a cylinder that looses compression so I shelved it.I really should send it away to be overhauled..

Possible because he was curious of the fit only and the radial is for another project.

Day 3. Motor (DLE55) mounted. Choke and throttle pushrods installed. Retract valve & servo mounted. Battery tray mounted. Cowl fan is glued in and curing. No more work until Monday...work in the way of hobby. Will get cowl mounted Monday and hopefully start on cockpit.

Which DLE55 did you use, the New Rear Exhaust DLE55RA or the Side Exhaust DLE55?

The FG series from Saito is using very little gasoline. I think the FG-57 will be good for this plane.

Noone will notice whether there is a radial or boxer behind the fan.

And the sound from the FG-57 is fantastic.

There are some advantages to a boxer; Fewer parts, fewer cylinders, fewer valves....and still, great sound.
