I am fixing up an HP VT49 for a friend at the club and would like to know if anyone knows how to set the timing.
It is soaking since it is completely castor sludged but when it gets freed up it looks like maybe a pair of main bearings and it will be fine.

The Mecoa website has a section dedicated to setting the timing for the VT series engines.

Thanks for the help, I have been to the site many many times but never found that particular item. It is located under the Frequently Asked Questions.

line up the mark on the thrust washer with the line on the top of the crankcase. In this position the rotary valve needs to be halfway open on both exhaust and intake. you should be able to see light looking through one or the other.

Under the FAQ's there is a section for timing HP VT engines with pictures. It is in the last section of the FAQ's and the last highlighted item.
