In the video I thought the exact same thing.

Hey all.

Nice video.
Does the nose gear door seem too close to the ground?
In a hard landing or bump in the runway and the nose strut compresses, looks (to me) like it might grab and break the nose door off.

Not meaning to be mean, just my observation.

Mario.

Hi guys I just got the model on the work bench and then compressed the nose leg and then is over 1" (25mm) clearance and I mean over.

Anyway here are some photos of the weather of the top after it has been clear coated and a couple with its workshop buddy.

Hi All:

as some people suggested nose wheel can be bigger, we made it now. See photo.

Ali, I will have one bigger nose wheel for you at Jet Power.

Thanks

James,

How about that large Hawker Hunter? Is that still on the back burner for FEJ?

Thanks,

That looks better. Thanks! I hope Phil can bring his weathering equipment... A brand new clean nose wheel might look at tad out of place

hi Shaz: I will check this one with company.

Ali, you can keep nose wheel as now, change it when you fly at grass field.

Phil: PM sent.

James, not just the nose wheel. The mains need to be at least 33% larger to be close to scale. On the newer, heavier F-16's, there is even a bulge on the gear doors to accommodate the larger required wheel.
See the pic below so you can get an idea of the proportion.

It may be more accurate but it almost looks cartoony to me. I prefer the way it currently is on the FEJ except the larger nosewheel is an improvement.

The picture above is a normal wheel, not the oversized I was referencing.
I don't see a big deal as almost every other F16 kit has it right. Not cartoonish....more like real.

Falcon:

Thanks  for information. The main wheels work good on pave and grass field so far. So, I think company will stay same now. It still can be bigger a little by pumping some air into tire.

Thanks
James

Yeah I'm aware. I over pumped mine on my smaller F-16 yesterday and the gear door was becoming trapped! I need to deflate them some now.

So is the current tire not the correct scale? I doesnt matter care how it looks from pictures I prefer it be the correct scale not what works better for a grass field or looks better.

Assuming the scale is 1/4.6, then:
The mains should be 6" (27.75"/4.6) dia.
The nose should be 4" (18"/4.6) dia.

Still loving it, but having said that. I have not had a chance to fly it any more since the test flights I could not get it under the 25 Kg strict weight limit ( Full of fuel ) for the German shows. So no go at Jetpower.... Which is a real bummer as everyone worked their nuts off to get this model done in time.
I have a couple of lightweight high power output 160 can turbines ( Knocking out 180-190 newtons of thrust ) and am tempted to drop one of these in, but then I think that it flew perfectly at that weight, so not sure. I might just put it through the over 20 Kg scheme and fly it with lots of fuel and all the whistles and bells.
I will be sure to update this thread as I fly it more.
Regards Al

Hi All:

as request main wheels to be bigger, we get the complete landing gear to be bigger now on F16 1/4.6 scale.

It will be 700-800g heavier than last one.

Gear is beefy and wheels are bigger too.

see a photo. I will make some good photos again sooner.

Thanks
James

I have JR 8711's on all surfaces now. I started off with 8511's on the ailerons but these were not man enough and as the speed built the roll rate would reduce slightly. I am just waiting for the new gear and some repair work to the nose of my 16. I had a incident where the nose gear did not lock out on landing and on grass the pitot tube dug in and damaged the nose on the way back Gutted as I was really enjoying it and had just made the first flight with the smoke winders fitted. Oh well. I hope to be back up and flying in a few weeks. After flying the factory demo model whilst at BITW in California last week I think I may re engine mine to a Jet italia 190 turbine as its way lighter than the 200, as well as move the centre of gravity back a chunk. I thought mine flew well.. Till I flew the factory one, wow that felt so light on the sticks and solid at slow and high speeds.
Regards Al
