i see how that would be very nice. I would make the cuts and install the hinges then just put the mounting ring in the cowling and use carbon fiber tow to make sure the ring holds the cowling. I wish i had done that on the monster wulf.

I'm thinking a "hybrid" of the 2 set-ups.

Utilize the bottom section from the 2 piece system mounted as shown W/the top half of the oil cooler ring & center sectioon left attached to the bottom.

I like the hinge mounting @ the bottom of the side panels. Magnets could them be utilized to secure the top of the side panels W/dummy scale clamps.

All of the panel lines are already cast into the cowl, including the scale clamp locations.

The top & bottom cowl ring screws could be accessed from the gun compartment & wing saddle.

I'm planning on a Saito 450R3 radial for power. Not that much vibration to contend with. Rubber well nuts backed up by nylock nuts for firwall anchors will further reduce airframe vibration. I've been using them on big single Saitos & my Saito FA300 twin for years W/good service.

Come to think about it, well nuts to anchor the cowl ring will also reduce the affects @ the cowl panel ancors.

Status: offline 		I'm enjoying this thread. I've been out of the hobby for 10 years but this model has rekindled my interest. It is very tempting to buy even if it just sits in my closet for a couple years while I pick up the remaining parts over time. You never know how long these things will be available. Kudos to Top Flite for doing a nice job with this 190.

Status: offline 		I wouldn't worry about Top Flite dropping this model from their line any time in the near future. Look how long the TF P-51 has been around.
Now if this was a Hanger Nine model it would be different...or maybe a Sig model.

To break-up the underside color of the wing I painted the inside of the strut covers a zinc chromate green color. I didn't do the wheel wells.
Now, all you scale guys can tell me the Germans didn't use that color.

That is a slimline inverted pitts muffler. i cut the stingers off.

Status: offline 		Ok, some painful progress through the engineering of the cowl hatches. I've yet to open the bottom but the hinges are there. Still figuring some areas and I copied Tfarmers installation partially but since the cowl opens; a few factory screws had to be left but are much easier to get to now! I'll Hysol the hinges, the re-screw them together and cut those shark teeth...Got bit several times. The easy part (thanks to Invertmast) was the securing portion.

Now that's what I have in mind W/the fastening to the fuselage done from the gun hood/wing saddle side.

I'm interested in seing how you accomplish latching them down @ the top.

Status: offline 		The new pilot figure (Gunther Rall) from Best Pilots has arrived and he's so life-like, I thought I saw him blink!  The photos show all the excellent details and as you can see in the last pictures, he fits in the TF 190 cockpit perfectly. 

You do have to remove the rudder pedals from the floor boards but he'a a perfect fit.

See you have converted it to a A7-8.
How did you move the cowling forward like it was from the A5-A9 ?

Status: offline 		Yes, I have one of these "Best Pilots" also that came in the mail yesterday.
Only I didn't pay to have mine painted.
I see a couple hours of work that would go into painting this pilot....plus a thirty mile trip to the Hobbytown store. Plus the $$ for those little jars.
I do have a friend (?) that works with this stuff and maybe?
May I suggest to get the painted one.

Status: offline 		I want one of those pilots but spending has gotten out of hand here lately. Personally, I wouldn't buy one unless it was painted since my painting skill are below average. I'm geting one down the road for my David Anderson TA152 as It'll be worthy of such a masterpiece. Hopefully he'll make one for 1/4 scale soon.

Get your priorities straight!

Stop wasting money on frivelous things like groceries, gas. etc.

Buy several casse of Ramen noodles & get a bicycle so you can conserve your $$$$ for real neccessities like realistic R/C pilots.
