davidgp -> Tornado EPx loses power and/or stops (7/29/2012 7:11 PM)

My new stock Tornado loses power after about 5 minutes, Eventually it will get full power again for a few seconds, then lose power again. Sometimes it stops completely. Motor temp was 137, ESC was 105 , battery was 103 degrees. That seems ok to me but it acts like an overheat mode. I'm using a 3800 milliamp 7.4 lipo. Any ideas on what to do short of replacing the electronics?

do you have the brushed, or the brushless version?

If its brushless, it sounds like its going into Low Voltage mode a bit early. If it is going into overheat protection, the ESC flashes red (if i remember correctly)

If its going into LVC as I suspect, charge your batt...run the buggy till it stops....then read the voltage of your battery. You wanna rule out that your lipo or charger isnt to blame. 103 is a bit high for a lipo IMO. Whats the "C" rating of that lipo?

It happens with different batteries, so I suspect the ESC cutoff my be set too high, like for Niimh cells. I'll reset it and see what happens. Thanks for your info. It did help.

Definitely what it sounds like to me.

if the "C" rating of your lipo is too low, then with 3800mah you may only see 5=8 minutes of runtime.
The C" rating should be at least 20c.
