Has any one else noticed that the front of the hull of the KV-2 where the idlers connect are bending in? Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

This is a known issue with that series. Daryl Turner makes a special idler setup to fix this and also to reinforce the lower hull much bettre than stock. Contact him and see if he can get a set to you. It is the best option out there and Daryl's work is always perfect.

I first bought the Impact Idler Part and it fails as a hull fix solution in rough combat TBU tank play.

The Impact metal tracks are perfect though.

These photos show Daryl Turner's design and first prototype parts on my KV-1.

The DT Idler solution works great, plus he came up with several other fixes for this fine kit.

Tamiya really missed the mark on the idler and leading road wheel design with the KV series. The hull is flimsey and the torsion bar mounts are woefully inadequate. If you have not built one please follow the Tamiya directions for those two wheels to the letter. If not you will have great difficulty and bend the mounts. Once bent, the hull strength and rigidity is compromised. It is however the best sounding Tamiya tank ever made....almost as good as the Leo.

Where do you guys find the blue replacemnt gear for the Tamiya turret mechanism?

THe heavy resin Leopard 1 turret is causing me grief with the stock Tamiya turret rotation unit . Gear hops, and I think it is the slipper clutch thing. I did glue it, but I don't know if it is up for the task

Dan, if I may make a suggestion? My Leo was changed to the HL turret ring and motor. It worked much better than the tamiya system, IMO.What I did was glued a piece of thick styrene under the upper hull opening. I then drilled out the styrene to 31/2" with a holesaw and filed around it to clean it up a bit. The HL turret ring fits perfectly with no slop and the whole thing is rock solid. Just offering a simple fix, rather than fighting with the Tamiya set-up, which is quite tempermental, at best.

Yes the HL system is simplistic but solid. I got rid of the guide wheels on the Tamiya set up, and the thing is actually not bad now, but I see it being tempermental. I don't have a spare HL turret ring, as they have been used up in other projects over time. I"ll have to order a couple.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'll get these Blue gears form Robomarketplace as well

I am also finding the Tamiya plastic rather thin and flexible ocmpared to the PVC of Heng Long. This resin turret is going to cause the deck to sag over time I think. I am going to have to reinforce it.

Yet another reason to use the styrene idea. ZIt makes the upper hull stronger in the porcess.
I think I have a turret gear if you need one. Let me know and I'll check for ya to be sure.
