For the overall wash I just use black, for grease I use raw umber and burnt sienna, for hydraulic and skydrol leaks I use a combination of French ultramarine and cadmium red to give me a purple stain.

For the splattered bugs on the radome I have used the red and black

I hope this is helpful

Phil

Hi Phil!

Thank you for the explanation of the colors.
What kind of paint do you use oil or a mix?

I use daler rowney artist oil paints straight out of the tube, no mixing only for the hydraulic and skydrol stains

Looks great upside-down. Can't wait to see pics right-side up.

My grandson filmed my best YA F-15 landing with his iPhone upside down.

Your 346 is just awesome.
I've seen a few here in Italy, always in the red or blue scheme that C&C offers and, as Ali said before, they aren't all that nice (to my eyes at least!)
You really gave a new life to this plane and I can't wait to see it in JetPower!
Great work as usual.
And thanks for your detailed pictures, very instructive and inspiring, just as the Futura thread.

In the close-up pics, I thought the weathering looked a little over-done. But now that it is all assembled......it looks PERFECT!

Hey Ali,

Have you flown the M346 yet? If so, how did it go?

Hi Grant,

Thanks, I hadn't spotted that photo and it looks the bomb. I was hoping to get some feedback on how it flies given I am going to start on my kit in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Garrett,
I did indeed fly it, and am really impressed with how it flies. Not so with the gear We had issues from day one, and fought them all the way up to Jet Power, where they finally got the better of us. Still not sure if the issues on my plane were with the electric drive units or the electronic box of tricks. I do know that we need to improve the linkage set up on the doors as well. The Geometry leaves too much for the servo to do, and the doors open up in flight. So thats another teething issue that I am sure Phil at Pinnacle will sort put once we have a new set of gear.
Despite the negative surrounding the gear, I am not put off the project. It fly really well and presented impressively in the sky. It's such a "different" shape as well, so it makes a pleasant change. I put a very slight mix ( throttle to down elevator) and I had no pitching with power. I also used a medium amount of crow for landing, and wow does it slow down well for touch down.
More info when I get a chance to fly it again and find what is my final settings.
Regards Al

Hi Ali,

Cool that it flies nicely but bummer about the gear issues. I was hesitant buying v1.0 on the electric gear, so picked mine up less retracts, struts and wheels/brakes. The plan is to use Intairco retracts and wheels/brakes with trailing link gear.

I may have missed it in the build thread but what size motor did you end up going with? I'm trying to figure out whether a 140 will be adequate or go with something a touch bigger. The next question will be whether to go another jetcat or try a kingtech. Given the prices on the latter and the good wraps they seem to be getting, they are looking like an option worth considering.

Thanks,
Garrett

I am hoping, and quite confident that C and C will come through with a gear update. The retract units and legs seem ok, its only the drive system that looks sub standard. At Jet Power Bruno was talking about changing out the chinese supplied units to ones from Switzerland. I will keep the thread updated on our progression, and I am sure Phill will update how we go about fixing the gear door fixings in order to get them shutting properly.
I went with a Jet Cat P-160 in Mine. I am sure a 140 will power it well as the 160 is quite over powered. Especially as the fuel burns. I have not used the Kingtech 140. I had success with the 80, and have a 180 here that looks great. You can only really go by first hand experience that is gleaned from other real life users around you, or better still your own experience using them.
Regards Al

Hi there,i am Bruno from Belgium and i chekt the gear for my friends M 346. Whith the help of what i read here i also ended up on making new small bearings for the gearboxes and some other things to make them better only to find out that it still not work. I measured the powerconsumption on the electric motors alone and find out that one motor used about 0.5 amps the second 1.5 amps and the third more than 3 amps ( only motors whith no gearbox ).Not suprisyngly the one that draws more than 3 amps give me magic smoke after two cycles whith the gear asembled. Also the controlbox seems to have a mind of its self so i decided to get the chinese stuf in the bin and put some other motor-gearboxes on it and use the old relais and micro-switch setup to make it work .I hope this comes to a good end.

Hi All
I made the same experience with the gear lika Ali & Bruno wrote in his post 71 + 74.
My solution is to change the chinese gear versus a pneumatic one from Airtech Germany.
