was just wondering how others are going on with the performance of their k30 motors.
tryed mine for the first time today, its in a 50" mono. i found it to be absolutley guttless. it wouldnt even run a 470 3 blade prop which the zen 26 it replace used to spin up for fun. even after an afternoon of messing with different settings etc it was still useless.
what is everybody else doing to get these motors to perform????????

p.s. it isnt the only one at our lake that wont pull the skin off a rice pudding!!!!!!

Im running a 6817/3 and getting consistant running in the 18K range. I have had no problem getting this rpm form any of the engines I have (6). The vedio is after I swapped the pipe over to a Hanson and got 17680 with out it tuned, I am now gettin 18400 easy.

Status: offline 		Have no problems with mine they run better than the mod zenoahs that I had In my boat before the K30's , although my K30's are modded.

Status: offline 		Iv got the K30 RZ in my F1
Had some issues to start with but this was because of running the K30 topkit on standard evo bottom end and lack of experience LOL
so did a rebuild added the 1mm stroker thats normally used in the K30 had to smooth out the transfer ramps to improve the flow from crankcase to jug
Also added a bigbore carb and port match the jug with the big bore alloy ISO block
and runs well on 7015/3 prop iv got a 7016 /3 to try soon also just had custom pipe built with 1" manifold hoping to run in the next few days
but this is how it run before with zippkits pipe and 7/8 manifold
 
Im currently looking at getting another K30 or 2  but the side exhausts this time

Status: offline 		Interesting as i know of many guys running the k30 and they love them,interested to hear what settings Nige and whoever else is using on the carbs for theres but apart from the teething problems they were having with the early k30s ive heard nothing but good things about them.They def outperform most zens by all accounts,my only concern with them was the teething issues but most seem to think theyve been solved?.Personally i like the evo engines they run awesome,see no reason the k30 shouldnt run as well or better.

Status: offline 		The k30s im told run better with an external stinger style pipe as theyre more setup for torque, I believe Don Holly makes a good pipe for them,read good things about that setup running at arround 17500-18000 rpm might be worth asking him.

Status: offline 		K-30's on 'normal' exhausts needs a longer tuned-length .. 360mm ,
to compensate the lack of volume in the exhaust.

Also a 1048 carb will help to reach top-rpm.

Status: offline 		The RCMK K30's are awesome powerplants if properly modded. Have got the mods working extremely well and I do not cut out the closed up transfers. The closed up transfers are where the K30 has advantages over the Zenoah style open transfers. These engines can perform awesome with almost all that piston support in place. These engines look far better after 4-5 gallons than I have ever seen a open transfer engine look. There is no smooth shiny worn areas you usually see. The engines look more akin to a single run that is how good they look in the bore and piston sides. The torque is very good. Where I used to run a 7016 it will pull a 7316 or a 7020 no problem. Even took a prop off a twin mono that runs over 70 and it pulled it no problem.

thanks for the replys.
this engine is in complete stock form. k30 top end kit with an rcmk 1mm stroker crank.
cant remember exactly what the squish was measured at but, its not very big.
carb is a 929.
the motor sounds very laboured and flat in tone.
i have one of the big 15mm barrel carbs from prestwich sat in the top drawer. do anybody think it would be worth a try???

Status: offline 		It wouldn't hurt as these engines need to breathe. Just make sure that you isolator block isn't interfering with the flow.

Put it on nigel and give it go i did all my mods in 1 go so couldnt say how much difference the carb itself made but im happy with myset up at mo just wanna try the new exhaust system out now when the weather picks up abit instead of heavy rain every 5mins

Status: offline 		I have a K-30 in a 42" Aeromarine SC.  Daniel Place did the mod work on it.  I am currently building another boat, and it too will have a K-30, Daniel modded engine in it as well.   Below is a video of my SC running, but beware, it is very unnerving video.  (I lost radio signal, and it didn't have the failsafe on as it hit the bank on the other side of the lake)...I know but it was running good for a while.
