Well, somethings only maybe 1/2 or 3/4 before running out of altitude as Esprit can testify with my T-28

Well...we had weather on takeoff...weather enroute...they kept us too high on the arrival...they wanted 300 or greater above 10...180 to 5 DME...the wind was ripping...the ILS to 28L was OTS and even with all that going for me...I still blew the landing...LOL.

At least Santiago and Quique got some fresh cookies!

Roll the 757, course you can, done it many times, (in the sim,!) but Tex Johnson rolled the B707 prototype in the air "selling airplanes". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra_khhzuFlE

Dont recommend it with pax if you value your job !

757 roll: Start at 250 plus knots, apply full power, pitch up to 20 degrees, full aileron, bit of back pressure to keep the G positive, power off as she comes over the top , keep rolling to wings level, nose will have dropped a little below horizon, recover to S +L simple !! Perhaps Beave can try it on his next sim. Concorde has been rolled too, as have Vulcan and Victor !

Now, if you want to see a stunning 757 near-aerobatic display, go see the RNZAF 757 display, quite brilliant, but doesn't QUITE roll it past 100 degrees !!

regards ,

David.

I have no doubt the airframe is capable of a roll, but is't the flight computers limiting the bank angle? Discovery wings were mentioning 60degrees for the A380 if I remember right.

Ah yes.... The difference between the Airbus and Boeing philosophy!
Boeing still believes in the pilot having control of the total flight envelope..........you can even roll a B777 (in the sim)
Just like David mentioned;  nose up, roll, power back so you don't over speed.

Not to say that the B777 doesn't give you feedback thru the controls when you exceed normal parameters, but it will still go wherever you point it.

Oh no you don't, like I said keep some back pressure to maintain positive G. The aircraft doesn,t KNOW its inverted ! Pushing when inverted will get you a face full of fuel LP lights and maybe some others such as hydraulics !

Lotta fun in the sim but it has its serious side, if more pilots were exposed to this and practiced handling in extreme attitudes it could well help them cope better with jet upsets, and perhaps avoid situations like AF 447, one reason the RAF teaches ALL pilots aerobatics in training.

737 rolls really well too and you CAN stop it on an aircraft carrier too ! All tried in the sim.

Dont think its been done on a 747 and the busses don' t allow it ! However, the A380 display at Farnborough was superb, and all done at an IAS of 160 or below, magnificent flying !

I just went to Barcelona and our airbus had ONE seat for smokers. Granted it might get drafty and cold in flight...

David,

I prefer rolling the 767 over the 757 because of the 767 having 4 ailerons active below 280 knots. Of course, I also turn off the yaw dampers prior to the rolls but that's just me...it seems to point roll better that way...lol.

Kids...they do the funniest things. Jack brought the boys up for a look see in the cockpit prior to takeoff. (Quique the youngest was nervous and was hesitant to come in too far) but Santiago hopped into my seat and looked around absorbing the moment. He then looked up at the seatbelt sign, asked what it was and we told him. He turned it on and then said "can I go to my seat now?".

After the flight he asked about the no smoking sign switch. He watched it the entire flight and the sign never went off so he asked me "why have a switch for it if you never turn it off?". I did my best version of uh umm uh till I was able to distract him with the engine fire warning bells. He's a pretty bright kid...he must get his smarts from Grandpa...ahem.

You are right:

Summary: The plane was scheduled to perform a series of fly-bys at an air show. The plane was to descend to 100 ft. altitude with landing gear and flaps extended. The automatic go-around protection was inhibited for the maneuver. During the maneuver, the plane descended thru 100 ft. to an altitude of 30 feet and hit trees at the end of the runway. The aircraft was totally destroyed by the successive impacts and violent fire which followed. The pilot allowed the aircraft to descend through 100 ft. at slow speed and maximum angle of attack and was late in applying go-around power. Unfamiliarity of the crew with the landing field and lack of planning for the flyby.
