My almost new DX8 will not charge its internal battery. I think we screwed up. We used a balancing charger and an aftermarket plug to fast charge the battery at the field. The manual says not to do that, and I had forgotten. The bluish charge light no longer lights up when the included charger is plugged into the radio. So - besides sending it back for an undetermined period of time, what might others have learned about this and how to deal with it.

I have not checked yet with Horizon to see how long the radio might be gone. I am in the middle of some serious flying - like many of us. Surely there must be some other way to charge this battery besides using the standard slow wall charger.

Appreciate any guidance.

On Spektrum, the center connector is negative. I'm betting that the charger that you used is positive. You probably blew the 3 amp shorty fuse behind the antenna. Radio Shack should have them.

The DX8 includes the charger inside the radio. The wall wart is just a power supply. You probably over-voltaged the charger input and cooked it. Your DX8 needs to be repaired.

The DX7s, DX8, DX10t, and DX18 do not care about polarity. It will accept anything 10-15V or so (check the manual).

Hi, Andy!

You are probably right.

Any idea how long it might be gone if I ship this week?

John

Well he should be right - 'cause it's his job as a Spektrum developer to know such things.

I find knowledge grows linearly while the questions grow exponentially - argggggg.

No, it's my job to make the AirWare. You just got lucky that I know how to tell you guys to find the answer for yourselves, up to the minute accurate

I use an external charger to charge the lipo batt. as it's much faster. Need to charge it every couple of months.
