Hello,

I to had the same question when I first joined the forum. It really doesn't matter what digital camera you buy or have. Yes, the picture quality will be better with the higher mega pixel but to post all you need is a good photo editing software where you can change the size. I am not a wiz or computer nerd as of yet but I have figured it out some what. I have Roxio 6 but there are several free downloads that you can use as well. Try www.irfanview.com and download the free version. After you install it to the computer. And you have downloaded the pictures from the camera and saved them to a file. Click on Irfanview and the go to file and open. There it will allow you to pick from files on the hard drive. After selecting the picture it will open the picture into a box. I don't know the exact size that is the smallest that you can post off hand but to start off click on "half size" at the top right of the box and watch the size to the left. Get it to about 128x96 and that should fit, if not try one or two more clicks smaller.
Hope that helps you out some.

Chris

I have a relatively old Kodak digital that i use all the time doing inspections. Set at lowest resolution, it works great for computer screens. It has higher resolution, but I almost never use it. If you just want a camera for the internet, the cheapest you can buy, or a used one, would work just fine. Set at low resolution, mine will take about 240 pictures on the memory chip, never needed more than that!

For posting on RCU, almost ANY digital Camera will work. I would suggest that you go by features that you will want to use (Zoom, Macro, Self Timer, etc).

Think about getting a scanner and just scanning regular pictures.

Too time consuming for everyday pictures.
However - you can do things with a cheap SLR that you'd need a high-end digital setup to duplicate.

(Taken with my old Minolta 5. 800 speed film, apeture wide open, no flash.)

I've a Canon Powershot S30. I generally compose and shoot at its second-highest resolution, then use Photoshop to crop/resize/etc. Its been very good for static shots and has outstanding macro performance for detailed stuff.

(Its tough to get detail when shooting in macro mode, in full sunlight, against a white background. I was surprised with the result.)

Action shots are tough to capture, but doable.
Sometimes you get lucky...

(Snapped just as the sailplane hit the bush. Not perfect - note the blurred wingtip and the top of the rudder.)

I'm pretty happy with it.

My wife bought me a Kodak sure shot model LS443 2 years ago and I love it! It's a 4.0 mega pixel with a mini zoom and takes really great pictures but I still don't know how to use all of the features it came with but I do hope to learn here so keep it coming!!!!! Here are a couple shots I took at the field last week and it's set on low resolution.
