It's almost a year to the day that I collected the laser cut semi kit from “Bellair” kit cutters in the UK, being retired I can spend a lot of my waking hours playing with toy airplanes.
This model is from the Bates plans and is the ¼ scale one 115” span with a Moki 250. It has hydraulic landing gear, folding wings and hinge locking mechanism. The model is going to weigh between 70 and 75lbs.
Futaba 18MZ sbus through a Powerbox Cockpit RRS.

RE: SaeFury
Mick15,
That is going to be one AWESOME plane when you are finished with it.........[&:]
Please pardon the dumb question, but how are you going to keep that Moki cool with that much spinner on the front of the cowl?

Hi David, good question, but I believe it is never a case of how to get the air in to cool an engine, it's more a case of how to get rid of it.
The full size Sea Fury has the same appearance, although I think the spinner is a clever design in that the air over the spinner impinges directly on the cylinder heads, we'll see.

This is a very nice project and you have made a GREAT START on it I have a question you say your going to have a
HYDRAULIC LANDING GEAR SYSTEM ? This is the first time I've heard of anyone doing this, or was that a type O
and you ment pneumatic landing gear system?
This is a really great build and I wish you luck with the the rest of it I'll be watching this one for sure.

RE: SaeFury
No Bruce, no typo it is all hudraulic, landing gear folding wing mechanism and the hinge locking system.
The oil systen is based on the UMS/Eurokits hydraulic landing gears, with some modifications to the pressure control and accumulator.

Hiya Kiwiphil, yeah great minds................
I'm happy to give you all the help you need mate.
My hinges are nothing like Comp arf, mine are a direct copy of the full size, including the hydraulic folding ram and lock system.

RE: SaeFury
yes we do
i had just sent reply to you and old man looks over shoulder and says we can draw that , he,s got a folded wing photo on his screen picks the rotation points out and looks at your parts and says the only thing i need to work out is the ram angles and point of effort {smart donkey } Then says that is all the jigsaw parts now we can start
thanks for your help , some times i don,t see what is straight in front of me
watching your progress with great interest

Ok what do you need from me, I can send you the files?
They contain hinge dimentions, hinge points and ram geometry.
Be very careful when calculating centre positions it's critical.

I have been working on this model since the beginning of January and its finally coming to an end. It came to me for detailing, painting, weathering and satin clear coat. Today she is finally painted and I have started the weathering. Please enjoy the photos of the step by step sequence of photos of the model being finished. The panel lines are made in my workshop along with paint masking, if required. The rivets are applied using both soldering iron and Dremel drill. The model was primered first with 2k grey primer then the panels lines applied, another couple of coats of primer was applied before it was sanded down until the panel lining tape appeared. Then using a pencil the rivet lines were applied followed by a very time consuming application of a lot of rivets (50k approx). The panel lining tape was then removed prior to the paint being applied. The paint used was cellelous with a 2k satin clear coat final finish. The walkway is black paint with salt grains mixed in, it was then sprayed using a suction fed spray gun. Anyway less of the chat and now to the photo.
