I bought this XXX a quite while back and it had a nice little clutch in it which went bad, so I replaced it with a WHH clutch which is a lot larger. This has really slowed down the boat somewhat. So....looking for top end kits, I found that the G231 can be changed in to a G260 quite cheaply, but not the G230. I have tried google image search, but there are a lot of images which have the wrong titles items on there.... I don't want to do anything to bugger it up as it has always run and still does, really well i.e. easy to start and doesn't stall anywhere. So...which one do I have?
Thanks!

Buy a 260 cylinder gasket , and test fit on your lower.

Cheap and easy way to find out

Thanks Hendricx, If only it was that easy! (No LHS's) Well...i guess I can open up a 260 I have and see if it fits. Are there any other differences that I should be looking for? Regards, Sandy

Thanks Doug & Mike, I think you're right. Looking at the Zenoah site, the cooling fins seem way different to the g231. Regards, Sandy

pull the head off if it only has 2 transfor ports its a 230, if it has 4 transfor ports its a 231 and if it is a 231 you can upgrade to a 260 easy with a top end kit.

That ok Silver, I'll leave the old bugger to enjoy a peaceful life in it's own little happy way (i would hate to ruin it, as it has always run well), besides which I have no idea on what a transfer port looks like . Looking at the photos I posted, I am now embarrassed at how dirty it looks. Doesn't look that bad in the boat....

The cooling fins tell the story.
New 260's are about $210 now, mounts, clutch, throttle all the same, even the crank is the same. So if you want to change over it is fairly simple.
The clutch shouldn't have slowed you down, double check everything is lining up right, sound like you might have some binding.

Hi Mike
This clutch weighs about double what the previous one did and there's no binding. As mentioned the motor runs really nice, but I can't remember which prop I was using when it worked.. I have some spare dry pipes lying around, so will switch them around and some props on order and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks again, Sandy

The large 14mm. spark plug tells it's a 230. All the 231s and later engs. use the smaller 10mm. plug.
