Ok group fired up my PAW 06 apc gray prop 7x5 best revs 8000 seems quite low it is new maybe 15 minutes on it sounds smooth it is not over compressed
back off compression 1/4 turn and the typical miss fuel Davis 1/2A exhaust oil light amber very little smoke martin

PAW does state 7x4 for break in and max of 8x4 for 03,049,06 engine sizes I did not have a 7x4 but think revs should be better

Well my new Fora 15 diesel running on the bench with high castor content fuel turns an APC 7 x 5 at 19100 rpm.

So I'd expect about 8K from a motor 4/10 of it's capacity.

Isn't the Davis 1/2A fuel low on oil? Not good for longevity in a PAW then.

On my little red PAW I ran the exhaust collector, but the oil was dumping right on my engine stand, so I put a 6" piece of neoprene tubing on it to get the goop past the stand.....and gained 400rpm.

I bought a bundle of those props from Hobbyking in the 7 x 6 size for about $1 each.

They're a nice shape and almost as stiff as an APC but not as rigid as a black Taipan.

That said, the blades are quite thin, perhaps too thin!

I tried one on a hot diesel .15 but it was 2K rpm down on an APC 7 x 6.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9876__JXF_7x6_178_x_152_5mm_Poly_Composite_propeller_2pcs_bag_.html

The problem as I see it is this:

Hobbyking don't specify if they're designed for Electric or IC.

In the smaller sizes they could be either. I'd like to try one in the air but it's a big risk.

If it throws a blade there goes the model and probably the engine.

A spec sheet for the JXF brand would be good and should exist if they're being sold in the US.

They're probably fine on small diesels like the PAW.

Martin, try an APC 7x3 if you can get one. These are great props for the PAW 06, or other 1cc diesels that don't mind revving (eg MP Jet 061). Once run in, you should be seeing something in the order of 16000+ with it.

well all 2 issues were present with the low revs prop 7x5 too much and was checking carb in good light it was not at WOT now at WOT and the 7x4 9800-10000
just put about 15 minutes on it it crept up from 9000 at the start to 9800-10000 holding at 10K you really notice the thrust increase holding the plane
Bob Davis called me about 10:30 last night after he saw the post and was very helpful I am used to the bigger engines his suggestions on the money, he wants to see any decent diesel run right THX Bob martin

AMB,

You should be heat cycling your PAW. Run it up to max for one minute, pull the fuel tubing or pinch it off so the engine quits, let it cool for five minutes. Do this about a dozen times and your PAW should be fully broken in.

Here's a good place to read why: http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/dieselcombat/index.htm
