I am not sure how long this will take but I did get started on my new build, and here is what I am shooting for. The tank had MEXAS armor added and shipped to Afghanistan. I am going to model the bare C2, and then add the MEXAS modules as I get them built

So to start with it was an Email to Karen at the AAF to secure the basics, a Tamiya 1A4. I also have a resin C2 Turret on route.

I built the chassis as per the instructions and have got it to the gear box stage. Here is the first place I deviated from the build instructions. I used Mato 2 gear boxes, and harvested the output shafts from the kits to have a gear box that I can easily mount the Tamiya drive wheels on. I used the Tamiya supplied stand offs, and had to drill new holes in the tank floor to match the Mato steel mounting plate.

Next up is mounting the wheels, installing the track and wiring up the chassis for sound and running trials.

Looking good so far Dan, will keep an eye on this. I wish they offered more "static" like this.

Cheers

Dan, I thought for a second that you built a 1:1 scale
Seriously nice work so far. It is going to be another masterpiece. Can't wait to see it running!

To answer the question about the turret. It arrived in the mail yesterday. A very well done resin model that comes complete with everything you see including a metal BBl

I got all the wheels on and track installed. I spent a couple of hours last night building the electronics tray and doing some wiring. Pictures to follow soon.

Hi Joe. I am not sure how long this is going to take, so it might be awhile before it is finished

That turret is really nice Dan. I didn't know that company existed, I am going to check out what else they offer.

Cheers

Perfect Scale is the name of the company. I can get you the supplier name I picked this up from if you want.

I got it from a Canadian supplier. It was costly,($275) so this C2 Leopard is going to end up one of my more expensive models.

When I got reseaching the C2 I stumbled on to another armor forum that is based on static kits, but one guy was doing a 1/16 C2 Leopard. I got the info on this turret from him. I thought I was going to have to scratch build one. When I saw the cost of this I was going to pass, but when I factored in how long it would take me to scratch one I decided it was worth it.

Turned out to be a very nice offering, and will result in something you don't see much. A great fit for the Tamiya static 1 A 4 . A guy will be able to build the stock Tamiya turret as well, and just change them up to represent both models. Canada ran them both.

I got the electronics all added.

RX18
DBC3
Benedini TBS with custom Leopard 1 sounds.
8 ohm speaker

ON off switch and charging jack located under the front drivers hatch.

THe speaker is mounted facing down and is off set off the floor by about 15 mm. I found I have much more bass doing this. I will get a video up so you can hear what this will sound like.

Hey Dan are you still seeing (hearing) that whine from the -18? Did anyone ever find out if there was a particular rev that was susceptible?

Yes you can still hear it, but it is really reduced with the new RX18. Also the Benedini drowns it out so you really only hear it when you are moving off of idle, and it is not much worse then other ESC's.

I had a set back today. I got all the lights wired up, and was starting to focus on the resin turret. I was reaming out the mantlet to accept the bbl and get it ready for the recoil, but I misjudged and I put a 5/8 drill bit into my hand. 7 stitches later I am wondering how I could have been so stupid. I knew when it happened that it was going to take more then CA to fix it. To add insult to this injury, after I hurt myself I set my drill down on a pair of gloves that I normally wear. If only I had the darn things on. I real bonehead move on my part. Always wear the proper safety gear when working with tools. As the freezing is starting to come out of my hand, I can see I am going to have a painful reminder about why you always wear the right gear for the job. Irony is the industry I work in has a big push on protecting ones hands as the statistics show we have more hand injuries then any other. Just yesterday I was doing a Workplace Safety Observation, and I made a point of telling people the importance of protecting ones hands, and that everyone was expected to wear gloves. Right after I did this, the first thing that went though my mind was the embarrassment of showing up at work with this easily prevented injury. DUH

I guess I was due for a tetanus shot anyway.

I get some pictures of the tank up with all the LED lighitng I put i it.

Dan, i worked for 14 hours today and just got in....I was hoping to see a better update to tghis thread thatn an injury. I hope it heals quickly and painlessly brother.  I too know something about getting hurt while working....not fun and you are right, usually easily prevented. But...we all make mistakes. Don't feel bad about it. Just don't do it again. Feel better man, and once again, wonderful work on this build. I love the sounds!

Bummer to get hurt.

You can be smart all day long, then one second of not thinking, and wham, you get hurt.   Been there, done that.

Get well.

Heal fast Dan!

Also... please, just spell out the word barrel and try not to abbreviate it!

Get well soon.

Dan hope your hand is better. I hear you on the safety issue, I am still nursing my hand after two months, compressed it like an accordion removing a sway bar link from my wife's jeep, and sitting right next to me were my mechanics gloves. Live and learn. Btw your build is pretty sweet.

Cheers
Wade

Yeah, I know. But that is for a Blue Barrel, not a Gun Barrel.

Know your environment.

Anyway, a hole in the hand is better than a hole in the head. Right? Good thing your were not drilling it on your lap, you crazy guy!
