Wow Carlos, it is looking good man!! I'm impressed by the speed you got out of that motor. I'm also glad that you got the shaft sorted.

Keep up the good work..

Rich,

Thanks a lot for acknowledging my efforts in my first RC Boat Project.

I can say that it turned out to be more than what I expected and especially using just one Motor with a relatively low RPM specification.

I can't wait to command the large Plywood PT311 next time with the relocated location of the Batteries!!!

I will have our very own DAVID HART who is the official Model Airplane News Magazine Photographer to take some high Resolution Digital Pictures!!

Here is just one article peppered with his super Photography skills:

Since the Stuffing Shaft that the boat ran for the first two runs was determined to be too short and the M5 Threads were not enough (too short of threads) to allow for the threaded M5 Propeller and the Backup securing Nut, tonight I finally changed it out to one that has slightly longer length and longer threaded end point.

As you will see in one picture in comparing the Old and the Newer one, the Newer one provides much better setup for both the M5 Threaded Propeller "and" the Backup securing Nut.

Sea Trails begin in the early morning!!!!!!

As usual, a few pictures.

Super Successful 3rd Sea Trail Run at Moon Port Modelers RC Club, Titusville, Florida. The High Resolution Pictures that David Hart took later is the official 4th Test Run.

Here is the Video showing the 3rd Test Run with the improved Center Of Gravity by placing the Batteries further AFT and adjacent to the Motor.

Bob,

Thanks for your post and acknowledgement of this project as again it has surpassed my wildest expectations!!!

Remember that I opted to just keep it with one motor and relatively large propeller (2 3/4 inch mickey mouse ears) and it runs very "SCALE" and this is all I want out of it.

This Plywood monster is heavy already with just one large 3 inch diameter "Brushed" motor and without any batteries so, installing any more motors and more batteries is out of the question.

Now, if I was living near a dock and I could have a small scale slip then perhaps I would entertain more power by installing more motors.

I was not even Full Throttle during what "I" call Fast Passes and again, I am not into Power Boat Racing type of Boat models, it really turns me off.

This large and heavy Plywood model brings out the realism and Scale effects I was aiming for so, Nope no more speed for it!

Thanks again for your post.
Carlos

Carlos,

So be it, scale it is.  At least you have "extra" throttle in the event of an emergency (near miss).

Thanks Bob!

Assuming you drive your RC Boat using Brushed power, anyone out there have looked into these?

http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-HH-TMBRXL.html

2s to 6s lipo input
onboard 6v 5a switchmode BEC
46x34x20mm
38 grams (with battery wires)
Brushed only
80a continuous, no single 540 motor limit

Reverse and brake adjustment

and......................................................

The following don't seem to have any reverse but, I was wondering if there is any device out there such as a Solid State Switch to be installed between the ESC and Motor and reverse the Polarity of the motor leads going to the ESC? Hum.....

Anyone out there has experience with one?

http://www.astroflight.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=92

http://www.astroflight.com/pdfs/207D_control.pdf

Voltage range 7 to 60 Volts
Turn on Voltage 7 Volts
Number of Nicad or NIMH Cells 6 to 40 Cells
Continuous Current Rating 60 Amps
PWM rate 3 KC
Opto Coupling Yes
Length 2 inches
Width 1 inch
Height 1/4 inch
Weight 40 grams
Servo Connector Universal
Power Cables 13 gage
Power Connectors Astro

and.......................................

Here is another one from Astro Flight and this one has on-board BEC!

It does not seem to have reverse? I will need to call Astro in the morning!
Not even this thread gives any insight if this ESC has Reverse?

Hi Carlos,

Most if not all of the high amp ESC's today do not have reverse. I think they stop around 40-50 amps max then it is all forward only. Hopefully someday this will change but as of now reverse is limited to low amp applications (below 40ish).

Rich,

I must agree with your views as I found this threat discussing pretty much the same thing:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=928926

However, How about the TorqueMaster BR-XL as it comes with stock with Auto lipo LVC, Full drag brake, instant reverse, and 100% reverse throttle settings, onboard 6v 5a switchmode BEC, 80a continuous, Fully Computer programmable via Castle Creations Castle Link with instant firmware upgrades, and most importantly, Designed and made in the USA! ???

Hi Guys!

At the moment, I really did not realize why I selected this large 6-Foot PT Boat Project and I just came across the article that perhaps explains, finally, why and the article best describes my thoughts.

http://modelshipsinthecinema.com/wp/archives/6

Most especially this write-up:

The size and scale of a model has a direct bearing on the effort and artistry required to produce a realistic effect. The obvious conclusion is that as the scale reduces from 1/1 the more difficult it is to convincingly mimic full size. A extremely large model shot outdoors in real sunlight has the most chance of success but both the cost of building and the practicality of manipulating such a model are factors which keep this in balance. After all the choice of using a miniature shot in the first place is because it is too expensive, too impractical, or too dangerous to achieve for real.

Also, feast your eyes on that Sub Display Model! All I need is a large truck with a long Trailer!

Roughly 840mA.  You'd need a separate battery source for this baby so you wouldn't run down your main power source.

Well, thanks again! I like to take this opportunity to thank another person who assisted me with the many Soldering tasks that involved with the various connectors on the Pro Boat ESC and that of the large Industrial DC Brushed Pump Motor and that was "KONI" from the HOBBY TOWN USA in Sanford, Florida which is just North of Orlando. He Soldered in some other connectors on other batteries that I purchased from Hobby City and other misc. items.

Koni is originally from California and has told me lots about his old town and history of his nice VW Bug Ride!!!

THANK YOU KONI!

A few Pictures!

David!

Wow! Those are really super pictures!

Photoshop or not, they just bring out the true majestic manners of this large and heavy Plywood PT311 boat! I am so glad to have an opportunity to own and play with it!

Thanks so much for the pictures!

Just Awesome!
Carlos

Here! They are all good but, I placed them in my order.

Nothing wrong with the middle or last pic, just like the picture showing the bow off the water

Looks good! Every model of PT boat looks different, all have great personality. Here are pictures of mine ( also 6ft) with later torpedoes and crew. There are 2 motors and 3 rudders. I have a 16-cell NiMH pack for each 700-motor. Motors are water cooled, but each Electronize (24v/30A) controller is uncooled, and they don't run hot! Higher voltage and lowest current seems to be most efficient.
