Can anyone tell me what the highest measurement is on either one of these airplanes (1/4 HOWARD DGA-1 OR Kangke Monocoupe 90A)
is?  Sitting on the gear.  I need to know as I want to buy one but need to know if I can transport it after it's finished.

Also comments about either plane and putting a DLE 30cc rear carb....will it work/fit?  DLE35RA?

                 Thanks,   Steve

Hey Steve I have the Howard from the wheels to the top of the cabin is 23 inches, from the tail wheel to the top of the rudder is 20 inches. This  is a great looking airplane easy to build and flies great. I have a DLE 30 in mine. Hope this helps.

Thanks Scaleman,

I think the 23in is going to kill me on the Howard or it's going to be real close.  I have a 25% Yak with a 20in tail and it's close so I'll have to get the ruler out and split some hairs this weekend.
By the way.....is your DLE 30cc a side or rear carb?  Are you happy with how it pulls this plane?

Maybe the Monocoupe 90 sits a little lower......Hopefully someone will respond on that one.

                                          Thanks,   Steve

I can't answer your question regarding the height dimension since I don't have mine anymore but I can tell you that the Monocoupe is one sweet flying bird. I had a Super Tiger 2500 in mine (25cc) and it was huge amounts of power for the airplane which was probably less than 15 pounds RTF. I have no doubts that the DLE would be perfectly suited to the airplane. While I am a big fan of the full size Howard I prefer the Monocoupe in this case as I think it is the more scale of the two.

Thanks again Glenn,

People sure seem to love that Monocoupe.  But I can't seem to get an answer on it's height.  I was just guessing until you're reply that a rear carb DLE would fit in the Howard and MAYBE NOT???? in the Monocoupe.  Therefore a 26cc Zenoah would be the best choice for that plane????
I sure understand your point about getting a good used one....but I have to find out this height question to know if I can even transport it.  It sure looks to be a good time in the air wif you have one.

Anyone feel free to chime in at this point.

                                             Steve

                  Thanks for the thought though,

OH Happy Day and Thanks for the info!!!    I am assuming (gulp)  That the tail is no higher than the cabin for the 1/4 Monocoupe?

How is your bird powered and are you happy with the results?  I'm thinking about a Syssa HP180 30cc for mine or Zenoah 26cc if the nose needs a short motor.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 26cc Turnigy engine in mine, it has a rear carb. The length was perfect to fit the cowl.(6ins from firewall to cowl) With a side carb engine you would have to cut quite a bit of the sub cowl away. Yes, the rudder is alot lower than the cabin.... I am taking my time with the build, other projects/repairs seem to be getting in the way. I must say, this Kange arf is one of the finest kits I have ever seen. The construction and finish are first rate. A good friend has had one of these for years, and his flys great.

Got my Monocoupe and getting to look it over I have to say that it sure is a nice kit.  Thanks for the input and good luck on the build..I'm still on the fence over the motor.
If anyone has experience with prop sizes for this bird please chime in.
Manual says 18X6 but there is a video with a guy moving at a good pace and says he's turning a 16X8 prop.

This has me wondering if I should drop a DLE 20 in this bird as it will turn a 16x8 prop.

Hey Steve I have a DLE20 in a easy tiger piper pawnee they said it needed a 30 I put a 20 in it spinning a 16/8 prop  the thing is off the ground in 50 feet and I fly it at half throttle. Dont be afraid to go with the 20 but you will need nose weight.

Thanks for the info Scaleman.
The wait for intel was killing me so I went with a PTE36R.  I figure it's way more powerthan needed but ok for weight.
It breaks in with a 18/8 and I figure to leave that on or go with a 3 blade 17/8.  Then it's all about throttle management.

Do you go full throttle to get off in 50ft with the DLE20?  I'm guessing then that the DLE20 handles the 16/8 well.......doesn't bog it down?

Being at the upper end for that motor that's what worried me.   Sure would have liked it if DLE would have kept the 30 and made it a rear exhaust.  Or better still came out with with a 25-26cc to fit in the gap.  Other than Zenoah......doen't seem like many GOOD motors in that size.

                                 Thanks again,   Steve

Hey Glenn,

At the rate I'm moving this monocoupe may end up being a winter build.
But a note on the PTE36.  One of my club members has a new PTE and had a hard time keeping it running.  I asked him if he got that straightened out and he said yes.  He was running 100avgas and that was causing problems......so he went to running 93octane (per the manual) and says it runs great now.  I just mention that because I hear some folks run Avgas.  I run 87 in my DLE30 and have had no problems.  Just got back from the field in fact.  Great day here in NC.

                                                            Regards,   Steve

This is my work in progress.  I didn't much care for the hardware that came with the kit and have gone to DU-Bro 6-32 hardware for the pull-pull rudder and a fiberglass tube with dual 4-40 rods for the elevators.

Hi Scaleman,

I'm not in the air yet....Still plugin away.

This is the PTE36R test mounted with the choke and throttle linkage worked out.  I also have the flaps and ailerons mounted with linkage and servos mounted.

That is it about the Howard that you don't like?

Steve looks good I flew my Howard today flew great. My Sinson with the PTE36 in it also flew great. Steve you may find the throttle very sensitive to inputs. mine goes from idle to full bore in about 1/4 throttle . I will have to move the the pivot on the servo arm closer to the center of the swervo so travel is reduced. Let me know how you do. R/G Glenn

Hi Glenn,

The weather here was great today and I got to fly a little bit myself.
 I have a Pilot yak54 with a DLE30 in the nose.

I had the same "throttle problem" you mentioned with your PTE36.   Moving the throttle in closer on the servo is a good start.

BUT.....the real trick is to......(if you have a digital radio).......dial in a throttle curve.

Can You????  and or have you tried this???  It works great.

                              Best regards,   Steve

Finaly got a little more done.  I mentioned that I didn't like most of the hardware that came with the plane and that hasn't changed.  I saw some build pictures of the 60 size monocoupe and now realise that that is the tail hardware that came with or at least in my kit.  So the tail wheel parts seen in the pictures are after market.
