I love gliding!!! I am getting back into the hobby after a couple of years. I previously had a 2m Spirit and an Aplha (I think that's what it was called. A light 160cm wingspan, 2 channel glider). I use to hand launch these and also take them up on 100 metres of fishing line. I preferred the Aplha as it was light and caught thermals easier. Found it very hard to catch one in the Spirit but it was great in the wind.

So... What I'm looking for... A glider with a wingspan between 2 - 3 metres. Something that is good at catching thermals and is great off a hi-start. I want something that go in a bit of wind (about 10 knots as it's windy here). Something that is FUN to fly and will fly about the same speed as the Spirit. Not sure about 2 or 4 channel yet. Any ideas???

I was looking into the Spirit Elite but heard it has the same issues as the Spirit (heavy, comes out too tail heavy with stock gear).

Thanks guys!!!

I love my Elite. I replaced the pushrods with carbon from CST Composits and that did away with a lot of weight.

One of the best 2M gliders that I've flown is a Renny or Avenger or whatever name they're calling it now. It's electric but this model will fly slope and thermal great. Highly recommended!

There are lots of choice.  Are you looking for a kit or ARF or RTF?

Do you have a budget in mind?

 Esprit has a nice selection
http://www.espritmodel.com/3D-slope-thermal-duration-sailplanes.aspx

Art Hobby also a nice selection

Check the auction sites for the Airtronics Aquila or Sagitta. 100" of classic glider fun. Sagitta also came in a 2meter size.

I also love Airtronics gliders. I still have an Olympic 650 that I built over 20 years ago. It has been suggested that I electrify it, but I can't bring myself to do it. Incidentally, Hanger 9 has just announced a 2.9meter powered or not glider. Built-up wings and a fiberglas fuselage. Maybe my Christmas present to myself. I just finished a Wings-Maker Ogar. It was reviewed on the home page here a few weeks ago. 100 inches of shapely foam. I should have it flyng next week.

The Magestic, I saw pictures of the prototypes on Pete Goldsmiths Facebook.

Looks sweet.

There are a lot of really great choices out there.  It would be a lot easier to make a suggestion if we had a better idea of budgit, what gear you already have on hand (radio etc) and what level of building ability you feel you can handle.  No matter what kit you decide on in the long run, just build it straight and build it light and you'll do well.

MrMulligan mentioned the old Airtronics kits.  I was always partial to the Top Flite kits like the Antares.  If you could build either brand as light as possible they were great planes for their day.

I second your Skybench glider recommendation.

I have a Cloudbound 4 about half done. Can't wait to fini9sh it, maybe this winter.
