Status: offline 		 Thought id share my latest project
Working of the previous build and proving well so far thought id start the next version but this time instead of an all wood hull im building plugs to mould them instead 
There is some minor tweaks to improve performance after studying the runs with the other F1 
So far iv built the lower hull plug and getting it ready to mould,once moulded ill then lay up the 1st lower and build the topdeck directly on it then mould the top half but this will have too be mould in 2halves due to the design
There is also some changes to the center pod and canopy to make installing the engine etc easier and easier to work on im going to be doing radio box aswell for perfect fitment into the hull this 1 will be inboard version I am working on a 48" new design with a look like no other F1 for outboard 
i will be doing an Ob cowl to suit to hide away the exhaust 
This is the hull im working off and improved design


Heres the Lower hull plug





And here is how it looks now all coated,wetsand and polished up ready for several coats of release wax,hoping to mould it this week coming

Status: offline 		hey when you build it and use carbon fiber weave it will be lighter and  stronger and will last for a long time i build the actule size race boats F1 race boats and we swear bye  carbon fiber if you need to get some go to www.zoltek.com

My biggest hold back was was no experience moulding and never done it before uptil a couple of months ago with the help and advice of a buddy mine i managed to do my 1st moulds and hull on another project and came out good  so hoping this 1 will aswell

Thanks bud i will be looking at using carbon fibre or carbon kevlar in time just need to improve my laying up skills 1st haha

Status: offline 		Don't waste your time with carbon fiber unless you using epoxy and vacuum bagging the mold. There are no weight gains as 10oz cloth is 10oz cloth weather it is made of carbon of gold. The weight loss is in using epoxy instead of polyester resin. epoxy is lighter and you use much less per oz of cloth than polyester resin.

I did think about vacuum bagging for now hand layup is the only way for me at mo till i got funds to buy the equipment but was thinking of using epoxy or vinylester resin when i do jump to CF or CK 
My main thing is to get used to laying up and the gelcoats etc 1st

Status: offline 		Looks good Daz ,you know my views on building light boats wether carbon ,epoxy or not.Light is not allways the best way, light means flighty,build em good and strong and dont worry about the weight so much.In my experience a heavy boat allways outperforms a light one every time.While using carbon in a hand layup wont save a lot of weight you can still save quite a bit as you can use lighter cloth than if you were just using glass alone,that said a mix of the two is much prefered with glass outside carbon inside done wet on wet,the glass has superior impact resistance the carbon adds the stiffness.

I do bud i will be try different layups over time and see whats best as you know im still new to this and have alot to learn but im putting the time in and research and asking LOL but ill get there in time hehe
Anyways must get on going to mould it today and the hatch for the X series cat so loads to do

managed to lay up the mould today just gotta wait a few days now and hope it releases OK then will lay 1 up and build the topdeck on it fingers crossed all goes well

yes bud iv got the design in my head ready to go,will be different than the above 1 with improved lines,wider tub,naca ducts and should look sweet

Status: offline 		Nice one buddy:-) I will be waiting! I hope to get mine out again over the next couple of weeks. I have had a heap on lately which has not allowed me to get out or do any of my builds. Did manage to get some holes drilled today but that was it. Good things take time they say

Status: offline 		1st lower out the mould came out nice,this 1 is a test piece,thin layup to see how well it releases and break the mould in
Next job is clean mould ready for next 1 which will be stronger layup to build the topdeck on

Status: offline 		Layed up new lower with thicker and stronger layup so ill start the topdeck build now ill add bulkheads and centerpod,wings formers straight to the moulded lower and some stiffners
Just gotta decide seamless or box lid finish
