Charge the first time at 60 mAh. Routine charges should be about 100 to 300 mAh.
It the 969 has different delta peak values use the secont fornm the lowest, or lowest if there are only two choices.

Which variables are there to set ?

I have one of these and I know what your going through trying to apply the very skimpy users manual that came with the unit. This unit has a minimum charge amperage of 200mA which is fine for most nicad and nickel metal batteries. The only time this may cause concern is when this exceeds the capacity of your cells. My 8 AAA cell NIMH can get pretty warm so I do several timed charges of 5 to 10 minutes with 5 or 10 minute cooldowns until it peaks. Not the smartest charger on the market but still a good value for the money. If you're savvy with electronics and Ohms law you can put a resistor in parallel with the battery and this will shunt some of the 200mA away from the battery. A 9.6V 2 watt shunt resistor of 68 ohms will bring the current down to 60mA. If you do this be sure to set the peak detection to 5mV for the whole pack.

I have a Super Brain 969 and if this 600ma pack has been cycled a few times I would charge it as follows.
1. Set the cells to 4
2. Set the charge current to 1.20 amps (2C)
3. Set the Peak sensitivity to 35 or 40. This will give you a peak sensitivity of 8.5 to 10 ma per cell.
4. Hit the start...leave all other parameters to their default values.
With 10mv setting per cell the pack will just barely get warm.
Just my opinion...I'm sure others might do it differently. I read whereas you can go up to 3C with NiCad's.

I like the SuperBrain 969 OK. It is very simple to operate and allows the user to control the important aspects. i.e. peak sensitivity, charging amps, capacity charging, time charging etc... It will only discharge on A channel...but you can charge completely different batteries capacities or types at the same time if you wish. It comes with an AC power supply, limited to 5A, not bad but could be better.
It has no memory so when the power is off you do have to re-input your preferences.
I like the simplicity and it allows me to control the parameters that interest me.
Now, what I don't like is the very poor manual, if you can call it that. I called the tech guy at MRC several times and asked him to explain many aspects of the charger. I will say he was extremely courteous and very helpful. The output plugs for channels A & B are typically set up for cars. I found I needed to make my own leads for the output side, which was fairly easy. I just cut the plugs off, installed spade connectors on both ends for the leads I had been using etc. A little bit of a hassle...
The LCD is great.. and the buttons are really nice. Once you learn the operating procedures this is a very nice charger that seems to be reasonably priced, usually a little less than $100. Just my two cents worth.
Jerry
