September is on its way and along with September comes the East Coast Pattern Championships. This is a District Two contest with all other districts invited to attend. This year the contest will be held Sept 15th and 16th at the Fredricksburg Area RC Club, located in Thornburg, Va. just off I-95 in the Northern Va. area. This is the same location the event was held at last year. For anyone that did not attend last year please refer to the Fredericksburg Area RC CLub website for location, directions to the field, lodging and dining. (All of which are very close by) This is a great field with two separate runways back to back so sun is not a problem. Lunch will be served by the supporting club. Plenty of parking, shade and electrical outlets. Prizes through third place, pilots meeting at 9:00 AM and entry fee of $30.00. Sponsored by NVRC and F3A Unlimited. I look forward to seeing lots of new pilots.

Unfortunately Larry I wont be able to make this one. I will be in Muncie for the NATS planning meeting. They moved it forward a week this year and now it conflicts.

Larry count me in, great field. I'll be there on Friday hope to get a few flight in. Do you know who's coming yet? For those how haven't been to this field it easy to find of I-95 and having two runway back to back make it easy with no sun issue. Hope to see most of D2 pilot out there and maybe some new pilot from other district.

Bill we missed you. Attached are some pictures from today's competition. It looks to be very close in Advanced- after round 3 it was like 3 points separating Larry and Steve. Sportsman and Intermediate is also very close. Masters is also close! With Ty Lyman in first place, but Marvin and Chris taking rounds today. Very exciting. This is an outstanding field setup as we flew on the back runway in the morning then switched to the front runway later in the afternoon to stay out of the sun's view all day.

The Fried Chicken dinner with all the fixings was delicious too! A Saturday evening demo flight by a local turbine driver provided dinner conversation.

Hey Don,


Thanks for the updates,..looks like a great time! [:D] I had some equipment problems arise last week, so I decided it best to just wait to compete when I have everything resolved. My field power supply went out (after disassembly and some circuit board testing with my multi-meter; I found a bad diode, easy fix). My aging but lightly used batteries from 2009 will only get me through 5 minutes of either sequence. The motor mount I purchased for the Hacker A60-7S-V2 I installed in my primary VF3 (former YS) was twisting/moving causing some very odd flying characteristics. The mount is actually a nice mount, but in an effort to lighten the setup I cut some of the rails short. Apparently those inter-locking rails help to prevent the twisting problem. I spent all day yesterday building a new wooden box type mount.


I need to spend some money with F3A Unlimited this week.

I had a great time flying with the D2 pilots: thanks guys for welcoming me to your contest, some great coaching and helpful feedback.  I feel like I have made some friends in D2 and will visit again next season, at the FARM maybe...

OTOH I do not think it was right for the host club to offer us the left over chicken for sale on Sunday at $1 a piece when I already paid for it ($12) on Saturday.  A minor beef, but considering a few other things I am overlooking, this was a bit much. When we spend a few hundred dollars to drive to a contest 6 hours away, a piece of cold left over chicken might have been offered gratis, especially given the fact that too much was ordered and we paid for all of it by buying the $12 meal tickets.  That said, the local members are blessed with a truly beautiful property to fly off of!

Thank you Larry K. and the Fredericksburg Area RC CLub for having this contest. Also thank to Chris from F3A Unlimited along with NVRC for their surport with contest. We had a good turn out in all classes. Sportman with 4 that was great to them flying it was a close race to the finish in this class,first place was settle early on. The other places were close with a couple of changes, it took the 6th round to set it up. Three in Imt. and 4 in advance which also was a close going in to the 6th round . Master (5)was another one that took all 6 round before it was finish.FAI with 4.
Saturday started out windy with three round flown on the west runway then we move over to the east runway for the 4th round. The club arranged some good food for Saturday evenning dinner. Most of the pilot stay for it and some good time get together. Sunday morning was a complete diffence in weather. NO WIND thats a first . I had taken out the Griffin of Chris to fly it Sunday morning but a few mintues be me flight I had a change of mind. It was so nice that I had to run and put the Prolog together and fly it , haven't had a chance to fly in contest without wind with it. Had to see how I could do with it. On the 6 th round I flew the Griffin did good with also but didn't notice til later on after contest I flew it on wrong setting.

This contest is in a good field and area hopefully we can do again next year.

Thanks for the pull on the Griffin JR, your warm encouragement on that windy morning and calling 402 for me: I really enjoyed flying with you and Jerry last weekend and got to see how Intermediate should be flown for a top score. Thanks also to Chris for the F3AU gift certificate prizes!
 
Thank you Steve and Charles for taking a turn coaching and calling for this new Intermediate, very helpful and glad to meet you and your fellow D2 pilots. I learned a lot at this last contest of the season (for me) and that's the best possible outcome going into the long off months of practice, practice, practice, LOL. Cheers!

Thank you Larry and FARC for putting on another wonderful and smootly run contest! It was great meeting new folks like Dana and Ty, and seeing old friends again. Competition was tough in all classes which made for a very exciting weekend.

The local flying club 10 miles from my house has a membership opening and I got in. I can start flying again,..so excited! The sad part is I am going to be gone 21 days of October and 28 days in November,..Blahhhhh!

Oh well, at least I'm in. It's a small club,..like 35 total members and I'm the only pattern guy,..so maybe I can recruit.

"Davis Bridge Aeromodelers" they have a website, reminds me of Green Sea with a mix of Lake City (bean fields).
