I have a Zenoah G-26, turning a 18x8 Xoar prop. I can't get any more than
6500 rpms. Is this too much prop for this engine? If so what size prop
are you running with this engine? The instructions say the engine should
be turning between 7500-8500 rpms.Thanks Aframe2

The bench mark prop is an APC 16-8 @8900 rpm. You need to get one and see what your engine does. If your engine is close.then you need to resize the Xoar till the engine is in its power band.
IMHO an 18-8 Xoar is way to much prop.

18x8 is just right for an MVVS 26 spinning at about 7600 rpm with the standard MVVS tuned pipe. A lot depends on the muffler though, and the engine will only get about 6800 on a side dump muffler.
At 6500 rpm on your engine, which likes to run a bit more rpm than MVVS, the prop may have very decent pull and be just what you need. You can always shorten the prop to 17" diameter as TKG suggested.

Thanks, I originally had a 16x8 prop and was getting 8500 plus rpms.
My concern was that I have this engine on a Pacific Aeromodel Gee
Bee Y 1/4 scale, and the cowl is huge. There wasn't much prop past the outside
diameter of the cowl, so I changed to a 18x8. Haven't flew the plane
with this prop, was concerned about the power with so much less rpms.
I have a 17x6 prop on order that I will try, if it doesn't give me at least
7500 rpms I will return to the 16x8. Thanks for the advice. Aframe2

I am running a 18x8 on my Pac aero GBY, but I have a Quadra 35 in it. Flys it great. I have a Zenoah 26I in my 1/4 scale Fokker D8, 17x8 prop does good.

The 6"props scream their heart out, and just fail to perform as well as higher pitched props, unless you want to fly 3D. Even then the 6" pitch is questionable.

I went to a 16x10 on the G23 and made it pull a little better,I fly at about 5000',I started useing LL100 avgas, nice improvment.temp and humidity plays a big factor for me,the plane is 16LBS,I think I found the rite combination.I tried the 18x6 its not for this plane.I'm am going to a G26 soon.

way to much prop. and go to an APC they are the best prop hands down 16x8 is what i would start at. don't worry about the cowl. it you seen pics of the full scale,it hardly has any prop out the cowl dia. you need a prop that the engine likes , not what the cowl likes. WB_1
