Hi, here is the deal.
I fly Club40 pylon racers and about 2 months ago I purchased a lot of (10) H5485 digital servos. I nstalled them all around in 2 different planes (except throttle) . The second flight of a new plane resulted in a crash due to the aileron servo not responding. So I just thought it was a random bad servo and carried on. Fast foward 3 weeks and while at a race a second plane has its aileron servo lock up and it too goes down resulting in a crash. Not good that 2 different planes have now gone in! We recover the plane and check things and the servo motor has quit working.
There was no binding of the aileron linkage anywhere to cause the motor to burn out.
I flew 72 mtz and I use a 2000 maH 4.8 battery on these planes and have not had issues like this before.

Im just seeing if there are any replies from Hitec that these servos are having known issues ?
Do I want to take a chance installing any more of these servos and watching my race planes possiblly crash?
Should I send these servos back to Hitec and let them check them out, even though most of them are still new in the box, as well as the servos that caused the crash ?
Im really reluctant to install them now in new planes.

Thanks,
John McGowan

I have around 20 of the 5485 servos and run them all on 5 cell nimh batteries, 2000 mah, 6.0 volts. I have not had a single failure of these servos. Sorry for your loss.

Hey guy

Saw your thread and thought I would let you know that I have been using these servos in several of my planes, mostly to operate the flaps since I can program them to slow way down and can be programmed for clockwise, or counter clockwise rotations using the HITEC HPP-21 programmer. They have served me well with no failures to date. Matter of fact I just bought two the other day to go into my WM P-51 Mustang GS on the flaps. All my planes operate on 6volt batteries and my Radio is a Spektrum DX7 if that helps.

Good luck, Jim

Thanks Jim and 42 for your reply.
I had sent the 2 servos in to Hitec about 3 weeks ago for them to check the servos out and actually got them back to me this week.
All the warranty ticket said is that the servo motors were bad and they replaced the servos with new ones. I appreciate the warranty work from Hitec but those 2 servos that went out cost me 2 planes.

I , just like you guys, have used these same type servos for several years with no problems on my planes, I just thought it was very odd that those two new servos went kaput within such a short time of each other. I reckon I'll just get on the horse and try to ride it again .
Thanks,
John

Well the saga continues!
I lost another plane Sunday due to the Hitec HS5485 servo that was on aileron quit working while I was flying. I was not able to bring it back with rudder.  The aileron would not respond to my command and the plane was lost. I had flown the plane- a 40 size pylon racer- 6 different times during same the day with no issues . The battery voltage was still good at 5.40 volts, I checked it before the ill fated flight. There was NO binding surfaces, NO loose linkage, nothing that would cause the servo to just quit working, but yet it did, AGAIN.
I bought a lot of 10 new HS5485  servos earlier in the year and these were it. I still have several new servos in the box but I WILL NOT USE THEM ANY MORE . I want to talk to Hitec and get them to swap me to a different servo and I want them to take back these that are new and unused and issue me some type of credit or exchange. This will make 3 planes  that have been crashed in the last 3 months , one of those 3 still lost out in some woods with engine and all that was not able to be found.

Hitec, what say you??
