I have a OS 1.08 Nitro engine and using Cool Power 15% fuel. Now i was told that it was the wrong fuel, Is this right?

No. I used Cool Power 15% in ALL my nitro engines, for ever.

I agree 15% cool power is OK I even run 4 strokes on 15% cool power

I ran my OS 1.08 on nothing but Cool Power 15%. Killer engine! Never a problem with the fuel or the engine.

What are the "experts" recommending to you as the right fuel?

I agree with everyone else here. When I had one I found the best prop to be an APC 15X8. I think at the time I ran Byron 15%

I have, or have had, four or five OS 1.08's over the years (still have two) and think it is one of the best two strokes ever made. Love 'em! Well, everything except paying for the fuel. I ran every type of 10-15% glow fuel you could imagine and never had any issues with any of them that I can recall. I would certainly not hesitate to use Cool Power in them. Regarding props I found the APC 14x10 to be the "magic" prop for my applications.

I agree with Chad and the other responders the 1.08 was a wonderful and reliable workhorse of an engine with no special fuel requirements.

Here is one on the left in one of our most successful aerotow planes that was built from plans by the young fellow in the photo. We have always used pretty much the same fuel as for everything else which consist mostly of 15% Nitro (because of our elevation) and including a small amount of castor in the mix.

I also have a Magnum copy of the OS 1.08 that is also a great runner (and I am not ordinarily a fan of Magnums) that I use in my carrier landing airplane and I tend to throw whatever old stuff (fuel) I always seem to be ending up with on buyouts.

Magnums are a crap shoot. You get good ones, and you get bad ones.

Indeed as are all the bargain engines and consistancy/quality control is what is always lacking. That lack of QC may argualbly be also the easiest area for the actual manufacturer (not the importer) to cut corners.

So when I buy new I spend my money on quality engines and when the cheapies appear from somewhere in my stashes that someone else took the risk on, well I use'em up if they work[;)]

I'm not brand loyal at all when it comes to fuel, whatever is on sale. Usually Power Master or Wild Cat, I do usually buy 15%, one fuel does it all. To date I have never seen an engine harmed when using any brand of store bought fuel. I do prefer blended oil though but full synthetics work just fine, it's a choice thing. The 1.08 OS was one of there all time best!!

In all the years of my flying, I have only gotten one batch of bad fuel. Someone, somewhere, had not added the oil to the mix. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out what was wrong with my engine. In desperation, I tried some old fuel I had lying around, and everything was fine. Fortunately, it wouldn't run long enough to cause harm to the engine.

I have 6 of these great engines, 2 are still new in the box and hope to keep them there for a few years yet. I agree, any good 2 cycle fuel is fine. I run Wildcat 15% 2/4 cycle in mine with a 16 X 6 wood prop.

I run Wildcat 10/16 in my O.S. 1.08, and have never had an issue. I agree this is a superb engine!

This is a me problem and not the fuel. When all I could get {on sale[8|]} was the WC 15/16 the 16% oil did give me pause. I added two ounces of Klotz just because. Now even the new Powermaster is only 17% oil. I'm still using my 15%-18% fuel and haven't decided if I will add a bit of oil or not. I know I don't need to with the blends we have today but my mind is still in old school land? My engines are old school too and the instructions call for 20% oil, I never gave them more then 18% though. It's just that 16% and 17% strikes me as a bit low. I know, get over it and get with the times!!![8|]

10% Cool Power will be just fine.I run Cool Power 10% in my two of my engines both 1.60 O.SFXs and my smaller engines.Why pay more money for 15% when it will make no more difference in performance.You need 15% if you are using 4 stroke engines.

You are leaving out one very important reason to use higher nitro in two strokes as well as four strokes and that reason is in fact density altitude.

Flatlanders who seldom fly anywhere else have a hard time with this concept but if you fly at the higher elevations the fact is higher nitro contents can and will make all the differance in the world and it not only makes a differance in the power of any two stroke/four stroke engine it even can make the differance in the ability to fly at all at the higher density altitudes.


Thirty miles away the fields down there at 500 feet elevation, the fellows all do just fine with 10% fuel and some even o% However three thousand feet higher at my field to get the same engine performance it takes 15%.

Now just hundred miles to the east of here at a field almost 7000 feet and density altitudes reaching over 8000 in the summer you are not going to even get off the ground with your flatlander fuel in many cases. When they have their annual fly in they recomend to the flatlanders to bring 25% for two strokes and 30% for four strokes.

Or for some who just have to use their 10% up there, everyone always gathers for the fellows takeoff[;)]

So indeed there is a viable reason for many and it certainly does make a differance.
