Status: offline 		Hey guys, I've just been informed that my new Sebart Mythos is in town, and so I'm starting to get together the thigns I'll need to get it airborne.

WHile the motor is one thing, an esc is another.

I was hit with having to return my CC ICE HV 80 last year which I was a little irritated by to say the least. Living on the other side of the world meant it took aeons to come home again.

Now I'm wieghing my options up.

Given the choice, would you go for a jeti spin, or a ICE HV or something else?

Status: offline 		If money is not a huge object, I would go with the YGE. It is the lightest, and data shows the most efficient. Less heat, less battery consumption, longer life.
If weight is not a huge object, probably the OS/Futaba. All of my experience with OS/Futaba has been great - quality products and perfect support.

I am nervous about Castle, too. I have 2 ICE 80HV controllers and a few years experience with the software. The familiarity is keeping me attached, but I would not have any trouble replacing them with a different brand if I could afford to do so.

I've been thinking about giving them a call and seeing if they can take my equipment and check it out, just to be safe. I know of some failures since the HV2 replacements, but that could be from the bad 4.0 firmware I guess. I don't like not knowing if the new firmware updates that get posted on their site are safe or not.

I have experienced some problems with ESC's lately.
Don't underestimate potential problems of some motor-ESC combination simply don't work.
My Himax has killed a Kontronik Jive HV80 regulator. BURNED! But I got a replacement which I use for my Plettenberg 30-10 EVO. Works flawlessly, and I wouldn't replace the combo for anything.
The Kontronik is lilght weight, has a redundant rx battery option, has a 15A BEC.
CC ICE2 HV80 is a very good ESC, but is useless if you are running Himax and need more than 30% brake (with current last software 4.01beta) The motor will squeek louder that a Rossi 60 without a silencer!

The SPIN99 is reccomended by all owners, so is the Futaba/OS.

That said, it would be amusing to arrive at the field with an aircraft plastered in O.S. stickers, have everyone call BS then show them the speedy!

Status: offline 		I think some others will do that before me its for a new plane that I just order, so it wil not been used before some months!
But I like the weight on it and I think it will have the same bulletproof quality as Jeti normally have, the telemetri I dont think i will be able to use since I fly Futaba , maybe it will work with Jeti rx for them who use that.

well the Mezon has arrived, it was no manual with it but it seems nice .
A bit disapointed about the weight its not 75 gr but 119 with cabels out of the box dont remember the weight off the Spinn 99, the Mezon its maybe 75 with no cabels ..

That weight is very disappointing... I really don't know why manufacturers mislead consumers buy stating incorrect weights. Who runs and ESC without wires??? The Spin 99 is approximately 120 grams with wires.

I'm sure the programming will be just like the Spin 99 etc with Jeti Box.

here its listed at 110 gr , but at several sites I have been looking at it was 75...
The 9 gr I can accept but its a BIG diffrence from 75 to 119

Status: offline 		Yes, big difference in weight.

Several sites I shopped my CC 80 HV on listed the CC 80 HV as weighing 57 grams. I then discovered on CC actual site (after I purchased it), that is the weight without the wires. The actual weight is 123 grams with the wires and that still does not include connectors.

Just suggesting that you might want to make sure the actual and true weights are what they say they are in total.

Status: offline 		The recently introduced O.S. OCA-1100HV 100Amp ESC (Futaba MC 9100A identical) is listed as 124g and it was every bit of that because the supplied cables were fairly long.

After lopping off quite a good length of the motor wires and soldering on bullets and then adding extensions on the battery end for the arming plug and discharge wires, I have no idea what the final tally is, but it isn't much - if any - more than a CC Ice2 80HV. But it has a brake that by-god works and doesn't complain about it! And built-in spark suppression that works.

Very attractive considering that the ESC and programmer box (mandatory, and it works VERY well) can be had for around $160 with some of the Tower discounts.
