Status: offline 		Will be watching this one. To me, the Blitzer beetle is a classic. It was part of Tamiya's lineup when I got my first hobby grade RC car(back around 2000). I ended up getting a Traxxas sledgehammer kit(yep, back when traxxas made actual assembly kits), but if I could do it again, I would have gotten a Tamiya kit like the Blitzer beetle or king blackfoot.

Status: offline 		I really like the Monster beetle and the blitzer beetle....just wandering are they going to re-release the blitzed beetle or Monster beetle????- But I would really like to know if these platforms can be switched to brushless set ups???- Would anyone know how to convert to brushless?

Status: offline 		tamiya does to a nice job with their packaging.

Once you build the model, you still have a cool box to display. Heck, i see vintage model tamiya boxes on ebay all the time.

The blitzer beetle actually has bee re-released recently. I believe that's what firestone has.

Status: offline 		yep plastic gears ive seen guys use lipo packs with the tamiya stock 540 can motor brushless motor is just too much for gears

Status: offline 		the tamiya gearboxes are only designed for 7.2v nimh battery packs. there is a big difference between tamiya 540 can motor and a brushless motor

Status: offline 		As I mentioned in post #9, my brother's vintage blitzer beetle is currently running a Tekin 10.5 brushless system with no troubles. So, yes they will handle more than the stock 6 cell w/silver can motor setup. Many of Tamiya's cars and trucks(especially the blackfoot xtreme and dual hunter) have overbuilt gearboxes with wide gears that are made to take a good deal of abuse.

Status: offline 		Yeah they can usually handle brushless as long as its within reason and run on nothing over 2s. I built a Lunchbox recently with a 540 brushless motor, and it uses all plastic gears. Worked perfectly fine.

Truth.

An RCUer here (Lunchboxer) runs BL stuff in his Tamiyas a decent amount. I believe he has a Blitzer Beetle he put a fast BL setup in and took video up, the gears hold up fine. He also ran a really quick BL setup in his LunchBox w/out issues (other than handling...haha). If the plastic gears are stout enough (and Tamiya's are), they can handle BL. Just because the kits come with a 540 silvercan doesn't mean they can't handle anything else.

Tamiya makes quality stuff. They just don't shove "metal gear" advertising down our throats.

I have a Stadium Thunder (same guts as the Beetle here) that runs 2s LiPo on a 14T Titan 550. I know that's not BL power, but I abuse the snot out of it, and the gears are the least of my worries. Thinking about it, I've got a 550 can in there with no slipper, no extra gear protection, and it's solid.

This combo made my savage xs fly even on 2s power and the quality is great,

Status: offline 		That Blitzer Beetle is a nice kit. I haven't paid it the attention it deserves because there are so many other kits like the TA-06 that take over the magazines/articles. I have heard mixed reviews about brushless with the plastic gears, but I have seen many people on here, as well as other places that run that setup just fine.

Enjoy the build, because I always find that Tamiya kits come together way too fast.
