DougB1. I have not seen a lot of builds on any CJM planes on any of the forums. I've belonged to some pretty large clubs in California and Illinois and the guys did not have a high opinion of CJM kits they built. (mostly jets at the time) On the other hand Ziroli and Jerry Bates plans were well regarded by the giant scale guys. I personally don't build anything over 1/5 scale, my aircraft carrier is small, so I can't speak from a direct experience with CJM planes. I do own one set of their fifth scale retracts and they don't come close to my Sierras. You might check the forms on IMAA for more help.

The plane they have is built from Jerry Bates plans. Bruce the owner said he worked with Jerry in the construction planning stages.

I'm sure Bruce's statement is fact as he states that on the CJM site and I certainly would not dispute that and Jerry's plans are terrific. I have a 1/5th scale Jerry Bates P40-B with a glass fuse from Vic at Vicrc. His glass work is superb, retracts are from Sierra which are very scale looking down to the drag links and all the laser cut wood was from Bob Holman and it was excellent. You have a tough choice ahead of you. Best of luck.

Well I am sad to say that I will not be installing the Wingspan retracts in my plane Although they are very well made and operate flawlessly they have way too much play in the trunnions when extended. I could twist the struts back and forth almost 1/2" from straight to tow in. My hat goes off to Mike at WS for great customer service and for allowing me to return them even though I had modified them to except 5/32 gear. He is on the right track for developing a good product and if this issue can be resolved I would buy them in a heartbeat. I know this rotating gear is such a pain in the butt to find any that hits the right balance of quality and cost and function. On one hand you have Sierra gear weighing a pound and running $270 + 40 for the links, and then Robarts which fold up on any landing that is not absolutly perfect and all the junky mech ones out there. Theres also the issue of most of them being only 90 deg instead of 100deg on the rake. My kingdom for a pair of resonable rotating gear! O.k all you genius types out there, the world is waiting.

O.K my new Wingspan 100 deg rotating retracts came today. I am going to see if I can install them tonight. I will post pic's along the way. Here are a few pre install pics. They are really well made of aluminum and stainless steel for the gear and the control board is small and fits inside the wing

The Sierras on my .60-size P-40 have been flawless. I have never paid that much for that sized gear before, but 3 years later, I truly have no regrets. I remember a sign on the way to a recreational lake in southern Missouri many years ago. It said (in reference to a high-priced boat) to "Buy the Best. You'll only cry once!" It is painful to buy the best, but it does tend to result in less stress later.

Best regards.

Spent time Friday and today monokoting the TF 1/7 wing. Next will be applying paint to the fuselage and then blending the wing to fuselage with the brown color camouflage.

Ok with the all P-40's welcome,, I have an E-flite 300 size P-40, I'm a pylon racer, not really a scale guy. But my daughter found in at the bottom of a stack of planes at my LHS, and we just had to have the "Cute little shark plane." Well today at an electric fly-in here in Texas I found a guy selling a "Cartoon P-40", and just had to have one.

PS can I have number 59 on the brotherhood number? it would go along with my racing number, and Revver Brotherhood.

Has anyone had or have a Quadra 100 motor that could give me info on? If I get the 1/4 scale P-40 I am thinking about it uses the Quadra 100 for power.
Thanks

I have a friend who has a Q-100 in a large Bearcat. It came from a raceplane. The engine is incredibly powerful. Should haul your plane around quite well.

Hello Brothers,
Here are a few pictures of my Top Flite P-40 Warhawk. She is power by a OS 1.20 Four Stroke . As you can see the engine is inside the cowling. You also see working cowl flaps. She has a total of 5 flight with 3 gear up landing!!! Over all I love this bird and looking hard at moving up to its big brother.

Hey Guys,
I just ordered a Top Flite 60 sized P40 of tower hobbies. I will be using the O.S 120 Pumped 4 stroke and a 16x6 Prop (good for idling). I will be using the Robart retracts as well (hope it all goes well). I will also be adding a remote glow fixture so it will be easier to start the engine. Plane might be arriving tomorrow!

Cool, since your already in China you should just go down to the factory and save all the shipping charges So are you ordering from the USA?

The TopFlite Giant Scale P-40 Gear nacelles will work on the SkyShark P-40 with little modification.

Yeah I ordered it from the U.S of tower hobbies. I couldn't find it in China! The products are directly shipped to the U.S. Its just silly, my plane flew all the way from China to the U.S then back again to China!
