DeviousDave -> Has anyone built a "Chips"?? (8/31/2012 4:57 PM)

I've always liked the way this one looks, thinking about buying the plans.... Did it fly well? Was it powered well with a .10 sized engine or did it 'need' a .15?

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (8/31/2012 5:29 PM)

I have not, but was looking at a short kit for it and I have a Magnum.10 for it if I built it...

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/3/2012 4:57 PM)

I was thinking about using one of the older Enya .11CX's with the AAC liner for the project. I've had it for 13-14 years, it needs to find a home and a Chips might be perfect for it.

When you say 'short kit', do you mean an Feebay deal or something?

klord125 -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/4/2012 2:20 PM)

Are there any pictures of this plane? I have heard good things about it but don't have a clue what it looks like. Thanks Ken

Iron Bottom -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/4/2012 2:49 PM)

Only picture I have seen is on the Air Age Store plans list. It is a nice looking model. I have a plan, but have not had the time to build one.

I found this earlier thread doing a google search:

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/4/2012 6:12 PM)

http://lazer-works.com has a short kit for it...

klord125 -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/4/2012 7:00 PM)

Thanks guys. Ask and you will receive...

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/10/2012 6:49 AM)

I ordered plans from MAN this week, can't wait to eyeball them....

Wondering what else might be a good fit... Norvel .15 for light weight? PAW .19 diesel? .15FP? ...or the .11CX?

Choices, choices....

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/10/2012 7:56 PM)

I am not a expert on engines but I am going to use a Magnum XL.10

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/11/2012 7:34 AM)

Magnum made a .10 sized XL?? Is it a BB motor?

Mr Cox -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/11/2012 12:03 PM)

I'm guessing it is the Thunder Tiger Magnum, i.e. the .10 GP engine they made.

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/11/2012 1:55 PM)

I will have to check and see.. I guess I assumed it was a XL, but I could be mistaken.

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/13/2012 6:27 AM)

Got the plans today, it's quite a bit larger than I thought it would be-should have a really nice wingloading. 'Course everything looks big when all your airplanes are 36" and smaller.....

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/13/2012 1:28 PM)

Hope you continue with the build.. Love to see your progress.

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/13/2012 4:27 PM)

Thinking about taking the lazy man's route and getting the laser cut short kit to speed things up.

This thing might get an MVVS .15 diesel.

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/13/2012 6:11 PM)

I am going to build it from the Lazer Works short kit.. I hope to order it some time shortly after X-mas... Yep I said that word

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/24/2012 2:08 PM)

Well have you ordered it yet and started the build?? looking forward to it

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/24/2012 5:00 PM)

Been busy with friends in from out of town for my 40th BDay, but I'll get to ordering the parts this week.

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/24/2012 7:13 PM)

Well Hey.. Happy Birthday!

Are you going to order from Lazer Works and did the plans arrive yet?

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/25/2012 7:49 AM)

Well, yeah... as posted above, I have the plans in hand and will be ordering the lazerworks parts. I work afternoons so my free time isn't really free so I do what I can when I can.

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/27/2012 2:01 AM)

I know what you mean.. I work days and drive an hour each way.. so time is not easy to come by. I am also going to see a surgeon tomorrow for my knee so who knows when I will be getting at it, but i will be watching yours..

How do the plans look?   It seems to be a pretty simple design.

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (9/27/2012 7:28 AM)

Plans are straightforward, it's just a box fuse airplane with a sheet canopy on it. The ailerons look small and the tail is pretty big, Not sure how much I like that. The fuse is tall and skinny, landing gear will be easy to make. The nose is a little narrow for my MVVS .15, I'll have to spread it a teeny bit for the engine bearers to clear. Really hoping not to have to machine a custom mount for it.. but I really want to use the MVVS. I also have a PAW 19 that might fit.. Maybe I'll get lazy and use a Norvel .15, that should fit, no problem. If I could find another MDS .18 I'd use it-fits the same mounting space as an OS .10 but spins the bejeezus out of .10-.15 sized props.

DeviousDave -> RE: Has anyone built a (10/5/2012 3:36 PM)

The parts arrived from Laser Works day before yesterday. I haven't inspected them yet because I am not at home (I split my time between my place and my GF's) and don't want little balsa parts falling all over the place. So far I can tell you that dealing with Laser Works has been a real pleasure-they were fast and the parts were packed very well. The stack of balsa came saran wrapped in a nice box that was paper packed and the parts were fine even though a corner of the box got a little crunched.

I'm going to work on my rural property upstate over the weekend but when I get back I'll take a pic of the parts laid out on the plans to show what you get from laser works.

dmbaerry -> RE: Has anyone built a (10/5/2012 3:44 PM)

Awesome... looking forward to seeing it... I gettin ready for my knee surgery so I think I will have some time to follow the progress.  I have heard really good feedback regarding Lazer Works.  I think when I get back on my feet I am going to order the CHIPS and Bobcat...  I will try to get down stairs to my workshop to take a pic of that Magnum Engine so you can see what I am going to use on my CHIPS.
