I was considering using Standard servos and 4/40 rods for my 1/4 scale Sig cub.
Can you modellers go with that, or what would you suggest?

Status: offline 		A good standard BB servo works quite well in a Cub, even a big Cub but do yourself a favor and buy the very best you can afford. Servos and your radio are with you for decades
so starting out with good servos is money well spent. Check for sales at Servo City.

Status: offline 		Excellent advice as usual from GB regarding servo quality. I have read very good comments about the new Solar servos which are being offered at very attractive introductory prices and which have quite impressive specs. You might want to check them out.

They are available from Hobbypartz, Niroplanes and Xheli, and are of chinese manufacture from the company that makes EXI and Batan servos.

I am using these in all my large planes including a 1/3 Cub. Alot of servo for the $$.

Status: offline 		I used standard Futaba 148's in a 84" Stampe SV-4 (Belgian Tiger Moth) and they worked just fine. Never had a problem with gears nor torque, even on the rudder.

Status: offline 		In my experience the Futaba standard servos - like the S-3004 - are excellent. I have had mixed results with other brands.

Status: offline 		I stick with the big three for all my gear and for the most part use Hitec servos. For the price I get them for when they are on sale I don't want to take the chance of loosing a plane with brand X from China. If I was building a cheap plane from foam or something I would give them a try.
As it is I have a big box of servos from days gone by so I don't need to buy new ones very often. Last servos I bought were Hitec HS 81s and some HS 55s. I got them from my LHS for the same price Servo City had them plus he just happened to have them in stock.
I do like digital servos and even the lowest price Hitecs I bought when they were first hitting the market are still with me. The only servo I will NOT buy is anything with Carbonite gears. They are too brittle and tend to break. Something I would like to see pulled off the market. I bought some really good servos with carbonite gears and they are limited in there use. I bought them long before Hitec decided to warn people about there use. Even then it was only on there web site or if you asked there service center directly. Carbonite Gears=total crap!! For Shame For Shame Hitec!!
Sort of like the whispered warning JR gave us about brown outs!!

Status: offline 		My 5645 / 5625 Hitec's are a little sloppy, but I guess for the price I should have expected that. (Digital version of the 645/625) However, every other Hitec servo I've had is great. The 82MG is outstanding and worth the price over a cheaper no-name brand - EVEN for my flat foam 3D practice plane.

Does anyone recommend a better servo in the same range as the 645's? I have some A6020's to try on the next big project, which look good on the ground? If I were building a 1/4 Cub right now, I'd lean in their direction, but I haven't flown anything with them yet.

Which servo exactly do you propose to use?
I personally use nothing lower than 645mg or lately (past 2 years) i've been buying the digital 5645mg.
These servos are not expensive, however going too cheap can be expensive when you have a failure.
