I was wondering what servo arms people are using on the elevators and what lengths. I am using the futaba BLS 172 SBus servo on mine and was looking for a good metal servo arm that I could get holes less than 1 inch. I am trying to keep my end points high for better servo usage. Thanks

I was thinking about this recently. I know with analog servos, it was a big deal to adjust linkages so that the servos would go through its full range. Does this matter anymore with digitals? Or, are we holding onto old principals? I have no idea. Also, for the amount of actual time and amount of force these servos get loaded, is it a big deal if they don't go full range? How many hours is a hardcore jet guy going to put on one of these servos in a year? Love to hear input from someone in the know!

I am setting up the linkage on the thrust vectoring for my skymaster mig right now. The nozzle is only going to go 15 degrees at max one way. The servo is barely going to move with a 1" arm. Any smaller and I'm hitting the side of the servo case with the big carbon pushrod.

Not on the elevators Dantley, we are using the 2 1/2" arms with dual links. The 1" arms are on the flaps.

The main issue is that if you are not using the full travel of the servo (i.e., you're reducing the travel or "ATV" on the transmitter), you are reducing resolution - either with an analog OR digital servo.

Depending on the aircraft and the type of flying that you do, that may, or may not, be a consideration...

I think it still works the same plus the gear wear would be un even. I know when I lowered the endpoints on my f-16 ailerons to the point I needed the servos moved like slugs.

I dont think it will be an issue since you are going to run tailerons you will need quite a bit of throw. I am using the inner most holes on the SWB arms and it is about the same distance as the elevator horns. The SWB horns are not in the pic below, these were used for mockup, but still the same distance from center.

Fender you can always drill and tap a hole closer to the servo center if you need to.

yeah its just hard to get something like that perfect and prevent servo binding. I dont have any kind of CNC machine to get things right. I will just buy some 1in and see how that works
