Thankfully the restrictions have been lifted after a weeks "no-fly" in Charlotte. Looks like a good forcast for the weekend as well.

Really kind of pointless anyway; The one's who are going to obey the restrictions aren't going to pose a problem in the first place and those who would pose a problem aren't going to abide by the restrictions anyway

All part of the "wussification" of the citizens of this country.  Islamic terriorists fly planes into the World Trade Center and we are told not to fly our toy planes within 30 miles of a politician on a bus.  Grandma and 3 year ols todlers get groped by TSA and we all sit back and convince ourselved "this is good the government is protecting me".

Just venting........ as the weather looks good to fly tomorrow.

Am I better off that the AMA sent me an email about NOTAMS??????????????????????????????  Why does it somehow seem not?

The real irony is that that the land we lease has both a flying field area and a shooting range area, so we can't fly toy planes but we can have traget practice at the range.    DOH

The people who are assigned to protect our presidential candidates seem to have no way to distinguish between RC'ers (NO RISK), and domestic or foreign terrorists with shoulder-mounted SAM's (THEORETICAL RISK).

My state has only seven electoral votes, but is a "swing state," so we're getting shut down with annoying frequency.

This weekend we have a big club event we've been planning for 9 months, but on a few hours notice, it could be completely shut down on the whim of some schedule-happy campaign manager.

It doesn't seem fair when it's happening to me!!!

But we mean so little when compared to the The Big Picture.

We had several of these issue in Michigan durring the last two elections.  Never had a significant event affected but have lost a few good days when I would have flown.  It's a bit like gun control.   Law abiding folks are not the ones that are a concern.  At best it provides a false sence of security.   At wost this will make criminals out of some folks that would have followed the law if it was reasonable.

Like they are going to be out in force with binoculars looking for small RC aircraft?  Now if you had a shoulder mounted RPG launcher, that might excite some SS guys!.  Fly low and have fun!

Wait until the illegals find out about it! We use to have a higher standard of living here as well. Now we have federally mandated epidemic of people taking out of the system that are not putting into it.

Hello Craig, Yeah, thats me, the red Studebaker truck and the WW2 military painted trailer. Stop by and say hello, we plan on being in the back corner. We will be there selling, buying and advertising the WATTFEST 2012 electric event coming in October. When a NOTAM is issued, a couple of the local clubs change the combination to the gate for the duration of the NOTAM.

ok so your club officers abide by the NOTAM.... but does the government actually verify or monitor that no RC modelers arent in the air?

As much as it verifies and monitors that nobody isn't paying his/her taxes?

Received notices of NOTAMS from AMA for this weekend in Florida.

Obama is having a ''bus tour'' and it is shutting down RC for about half the state this weekend.

I appreciate the AMA letting me know what a PITA this election campaign will be in swing states like Florida.

Now just what is the danger of a RC plane to a ''bus tour''???????  I know that the AMA cannot help what the FAA issues as NOTAMS just venting.

Brad

My good friend lives 1/2 mile from the Kerry estate in Fox Chapel, outside of Pittsburgh PA. He left his house and went away for a few days, the last two times Kerry and Obama used the place for functions, since they blocked all the roads off. I'm sure they would have come and arrested me, if I went to his house and flew a plane in his backyard field.

As for what is the danger, you now live in a country like Iraq was, with Saddam Hussein. Hussein banned rc flying, as he thought it could be used in that 1 in a million chance that somebody could successfully attack him with an rc model. Your country and leaders are obviously now doing the same thing as Hussein did, for the same reasons. They see it the same way as the threat an older woman poses, while flying her late husband's 90mph vintage Piper Cub many miles away from the president's 600mph airliner. They needed to have F16s strafe her, ground her, and arrest her.

If you were flying something big enough to get their attention (either large or in close proximity to the center of the TFR) they would probably politely ask you to stop. If you packed up and went home that would likely be the end of it. If you asserted your consitutional rights or whatever you would probably endure several hours of enough inconvenience that if they were to ask you to stop again you would pack up and go home.

Be careful, I heard they sometimes send a helicopter to fly the 30 miles ratio, if they see you they will land and fine you

During the "festivities" here in Charlotte over the past week I had a job not far from our field so I decided to go on over and take look around.

There were two Dept of Homeland Security-Federal Police SUV's parked at the gate to the field. They eyed me pretty closely since the field is at the end of a deadend road but didn't move as I turned around and departed. Probably figured I was lost or missed the entrance to the city landfill 100yds prior to the field.

They use the Club's Safety Officer email address. I'd call the AMA Monday and make sure they have the correct information for your club contact. They do not send it to all the officers, etc.

We had a NOTAM for our area in July. It started from Friday afternoon 1700 until Saturday 1400. At 1700 we had F-15's and F-16's flying over the No-Fly Zone. Our web girl took pics of them flynig over our field. We fly at Barber Airport (2D1)
I live by two major hospitals in Canton, and Life Flight took off from one. Within thirty seconds my house was buzzed by an F-16 from the Toledo ANG. It was the same thing, a bus tour from CLE to YNG.
Now here is the funny thing, Th VP flew into our area and we only had a three mile restricted zone. Go figure.

Odd then that I get NOTAM emails, as I have been in years past the Club Secretary, V.P. and lastly two years ago the President.  Today just a regular member.  On the last renewal the AMA asked for email addresses and I know many get the "AMA Insider" email newsletter.   I hope the AMA doesn't believe it would cost more to send NOTAMS to all email addresses on file and not to just a select few.
