not one time has the AMA emailed me to notify us of a NOTAM in our area

They use the Club's Safety Officer email address. I'd call the AMA Monday and make sure they have the correct information for your club contact. They do not send it to all the officers, etc.

i am the secretary and the club contact....this will be my last term, so ill just leave it at that

The bottom line is, the Secret Service, FAA, and Dept of Homeland Security take these very seriously, I suggest everyone does the same.

Until the AMA can get the FAA to ease up on the restrictions it's best not to stir the pot.

Maybe it’s a signup to get them for specific areas to the Email listed. I remember reading about cell phone signups per area in the past also.

BTW - you will only receive a notice of a TFR that is in your area. So not every club across the land gets these every time, just those in the affected region.

Where can I sign up so that I can get these NOTAMS too...?

I'm starting to feel kind of left out...

You do not "sign up". If you are the designated club safety office for your club and your email was provided to the AMA when the Club submitted their annual charter renewal, then you should get the TFRs that pop up in your area.

Failing that you can always go to the AMA website to check. They post them right on the front page.

And, you can always go right to the source, the FAA to see them all.

If any of the guys in the black suits taps me on the shoulder and asks me why I didn't hear about the NOTAM...I'll just have to ask the guy what the heck is a NOTAM..?
Is that one of those new fangled energy drinks..?
When the day comes where we have to religiously check for NOTAMS [as if owning a home computer has become mandatory equipment to be a US citizen]...then we have really hit rock bottom as a wussified society.
George Orwell would look upon this mess and say, "I told you so".

what would happen if you happen to be flying while there is a NOTAM going on, and had no clue? TBH i only hear about NOTAMS here on RCU.... not one time has the AMA emailed me to notify us of a NOTAM in our area///// and thats becuase im a club officer(secretary).... and yes Obummer has been here a few times

If you were flying something big enough to get their attention (either large or in close proximity to the center of the TFR) they would probably politely ask you to stop. If you packed up and went home that would likely be the end of it. If you asserted your consitutional rights or whatever you would probably endure several hours of enough inconvenience that if they were to ask you to stop again you would pack up and go home.

I think Barracuda is 100% correct.

Club officers should notify everyone when they get the AMA notice.

This is another reason I hate politics

I think the banning of model planes in AMA sanctioned fields miles away from where the President is going to be, is like the Hussein regime. There's no need for that. It treats all of us American citizens as if we are terrorists, which we are not.

I am glad I belong to a non AMA "sanctioned" club then...if that's the way it is...BTW What's a NOTAM? and how can I get some?

I'm embarrassed to be associated with the fools who think that the old lady in the Piper Cub was, "in the wrong" and needed to, "stand down".
Try to imagine some of the real men from years past who would have dispatched a pair of
F16s to intercept a Piper Cub.
Are we being led by 16 year old girls...?

It used to be so much easier with the old radios before 2.4G. The noise jammers would start up a couple hours before a Presidential arrival and you would quit flying due to glitches.

Unfortunately too many people just didn't heed my warning to leave political commentary out of this thread. This is NOT the place to discuss politics, period. Since many here have decided to ignore my warning I'm putting an end to this thread.
