Hi All some really good info in this with the right size exhaust pipe and turbine to pipe gap there is some extra thrust to be had, also colin has done some work on fod guards it seems that the really close weave fod guards do restrict air and the turbine suffers as a result!! regards Keith

Statically...shove a load of air in front of it and who knows!
Guess it depends how much and what size of "grit" you want stopping...but it was interesting

If the turbine max rpm drops with a fod guard fitted then yes, but if a turbine is can reach its max at say 120K with or without the fod guard then there is zero difference.
Even if it can be said the turbine has to work harder to reach the max rpm then the EGT will rise which will in turn actually increase the thrust output.
So if you are concerned plug in your GSU and check the max rpm if it being reached with the FOD guard then forget about it and go fly.

If the 1lb of thrust is that critical your turbine is the wrong size or model too heavy

That's not true, any restriction to airflow on the turbine intake path will cause a loss of intake pressure, so the massflow trough the engine will be lower, thus lower thrust output. Same effect as high altitude operation. Actually the rotor would turn faster, less work to compress less mass of air, but the ecu will reduce the fuel flow to keep the RPM controlled. You can test with a EDF (or a vacuum cleaner), a restriction in the intake always cause higher rpm on rotor (or less amperage) and less air moved trough
