Thanks for the tips. This was definitely not fish-eye. I've run into that some as well.

I did put on a light coat first, but it is definitely possible that it went on and formed "droplets" instead of going on smooth.
I can never seem to find that "mist" coat that people talk about. The the paint is pre-thinned, I'm wondering if maybe it was
slightly too thick and perhaps it didn't flow out correctly for my wet coat. Of course, if the first part is true it would just
expose that first coat's roughness. After the priming stage, I had the surface almost glass smooth so I know it isn't that.

I've uploaded a couple of pictures to show you what I'm getting.

Leroy, thanks for the tip. I went with a "cheaper" choice. However, these were only for small graphics and lettering. I'm going to do the big graphics with paint.

Status: online 		Thats a paint and set up problem. It may be too thick or you can up the pressure to 45psi. It looks like its shot at a low pressure and its too thick.

Up the pressure and test it. If not then use 40psi and thin it a little more then test it again. It should spray on thin and wet and when you over lap each pass they should blend nicely.

This one shot like it was wall texture! Lol

What paint system is it?
Can post photos of the containers?

If I fail at this, I could always go into ceiling texturing business.

I did pump up the pressure tonight and it is better. I had to mix up a lighter color than what these pictures show so I
lightly sanded to get some of that texture out and resprayed. I do think the paint is slightly too thick so when I spray
the top I'll thin it a bit. The leading edge is where it shows the most on this run and there was still a little bit of
texture there that I wasn't able to sand out. I think the leading edge issue is because I'm being overly cautious not
to cause runs. Another thing I noticed was that the rivet indentions where I popped the vinyl out left some
adhesive residue. I thought I had gotten all of this out with goo-gone, but obviously not. As you can see it caused
some of them to not be as clean as I would have liked. Live and learn huh


I'm enclosing a picture of the paint I'm using. I had to mix it of course since they only sell
primary colors, black, white and metalic. This is paint that I bought from AutoZone (it's about $25.00 per quart,
not sure if it is worth that or not).

Thanks for all the tips. Hopefully I'll have better luck when I spray the top of the wing.

Got the top done. I thinned the paint a bit (probably need to thin even more) and raised the pressure to roughly 40psi.
This did help. It isn't perfect by any means, but practice makes perfect.

Here are some pics of some of the detail stuff and the same corner that showed lots of orange peel for the first spray.
Yes, you do see a small amount of metalic in there. The raised details were done with cut out vinyl and it turned out
ok except that the scale is larger than I'd like.

Status: online 		Thats looking much better. I suggest trying one small batch at a higher reduction and see how it behaves so you know what to expect. So far the details look great and your not blowing them out with too much paint so just keep going.

On the fuel cap, if your not already planning to do something, I suggest you use a circle template and a scribe tool to scribe a circle part line around the cap. That and the spot of red paint with the decal will make that detail pop.

The next time you try to make the raised rivets, like your saying they look too big, you can make them smaller in anticipation of the paint thickness and visual effect. You dont need to make the part to perfect scale what your looking for is the suggestion the detail is there and its accurate. It doesnt stop with just cutting the vinyl, thats just part of the path to the finished effect. But now you know and next time it will be spot on.

Keep it going you have the momentum now!
