Guys,

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using multiple LiPo packs in lieu of just one?
As an example, would it be better to run a 2x 4s 2500mAh LiPo connected in parallel or 1x 4s 5000mAh LiPo?

Thanks

The end result should be the same.

Single pack is simpler, less connections. May be cheaper.
Double pack is more versatile for placement and balance and can also be used in other seperate apps. May be even cheaper and/or cheaper to replace (just one)

I have found in some situations that 2 smaller batteries may be less expensive and actually weigh less than one big battery. As an example I use an 8 cell solution in series using either 2 3300 4 cells or one 4000 5 Cell and one 4000 3 cell. In both cases the 2 smaller batteries weighed less and were less expensive than one 8 cell battery.

I'd rather use multiple packs, due to cost, availability, and fit.
Besides that, a failed or weak cell is less expensive and trouble to deal with.
The downside is usually the extra wiring, connectors, and the resulting I/R loss.
An upside may be that with serial connected packs to get to 8 cells or more, you can use
a BEC that runs from the most negative pack.

Do you pull bec power from ONLY one pack when using multiple series packs?
