Zeb:

If it were me the choice would be the Magnum.

And if the freebie were for similar cost I'd have two Magnums for the price of your OS.

And be more than twice as well off, mine would be ABC engines.

Bill.

I would take the Magnum also. I am not trying to bash O.S. but steer clear of them now. I do have a couple of O.S. engines and they do run well. I also have a few that lost thier shiny insides.

I have siad it before, I used to call them Mag-dogs, Mag-duds and a few I won't say here. They "were" pure junk. They have changed to be a decent engine. As stated already, for the cost of 1 O.S. I can get two Magnums, TT, GMS. Are O.S. worth twice the price????

i have had a magnum 52 on my 3d airplane for two seasons and not one dead stick the last os power airplane i saw at the field ended up in a tree after the motor died ! so your right magnums seem to be good to me thats all i own i have two 4 stokes a 91 and a 120 2 52 2 strokes and one 46 they all run great (after you get them tuned in) witch can be a pain but i dont think os or saito are any better in that regard

What would you pick for Free Right now?

Well if both were free I'd take the Magnum. Since I own one and from what I've seen it puts out a lot of power. Like I said I'd like to see a comparison done, but since I'm familier with the Magnum I'd take it.

I have to go with the magnum thing I have 5 mag 52( these are 4 stokes)
and a 91 2strk ASP (same engine as mag) and 2 of their 30 4 strk they
all run fine as stated why spend the extra $$$ on OS If I had bought OS
would only have half as many.,this has nothing to do with the liner thing
One more thing I have not looked at their prices lately but I bet you can
buy a Fox or a KandB (made right here in the USA for less than OS)

I don't know why but my XLS 52 runs flawlessly with the high needle set at about 1 1/4 turns open and low end is set to ( with the throttle closed ) about 3/8 turn open. I feel these are irregular settings, but it is surely a great engine with an ASP 12.25 X 3.75 and 10% fuel. Those who are having trouble, all I can say is the low end valve is touchy.

Haz:

No.

Omega 15% will be OK for break-in, though.

Bill.

Robert Bauer my .52's needle setting are pretty close tou what you have. The low speed needle on mine is set almost in the midle from 3/4 to 1/2 turn out and the high end is set just under 1 1/4 turn out. Your settings sound right on the money compared to my engine.

HAZ, I broke mine in with 15% Power MAster. I think that Magnum wants a little castor oil in the mix.

Buzzard:

The castor is why I nixed the Cool Power. It's all synthetic, while the Omega is a castor blend.

The addition of four ounces castor oil to a gallon of Cool Power makes it OK to use.

When oh when will Quantum send the Big Brown truck to my house? I've been waiting over 3 weeks for my 2 52s and I'm ready to put No Vacancy signs in the noses of my Twist and Edge Profile.

I am soon to get another engine in this class. I was looking at the Magnum 52 and the Webra GT50. Anyone had these two engines and con give an opinion.

BTW - I WILL be using Cool Power 15% -- This is the only fuel I can purchase within 100 miles, and no one in our club has had any engine failure that can be attributed to Cool Power, just make sure that you have a little smoke coming out the exhaust.

Flew my Sukhoi today with the Magnum 52 and it seems to have tons of power. Noticed that it started sounding funny in the air and after landing a friend noticed that my muffler was dangling by only one screw. The other screw was sandwiched between the cowl and the fuse. I read here that many of you are using permatex. Will this permatex work well. There seems to be 100 different kinds.

If I get some should I replace the stock gasket? And should I take the muffler apart and put the permatex on all mating surfaces? I did drill out the holes in the baffle a bit to allow for better airflow. I have some blue locktight that I think I will use on the hexbolts that hold the muffler on.

David:

My experience with muffler gaskets on these engines is consistent failure.

With heat and vibration the gasket is compressed, that loosens the mounting and the muffler hammers the gasket making everything even looser, then the gasket fails and the muffler screws are so loose the muffler falls off. Don't use the gasket.

The "High Temp" RTV you referenced will work, but I've never had any problem with ordinary "Blue Glue" on a two-stroke engine. They don't get that hot. LocTite is up to you, but the operating temperature is high enough to soften it so I don't bother. Smooth mating faces. a thin smear of RTV, snug the screws. No more problem. And yes, I seal the seam in the body too.

Bill.
