All I was hoping for was for some one to maybe  put up a couple of close up pics of how they did it, and possibly a tip or two, like what you used for the wire. Being my first vintage kit build, I'm kind of left to guess on a lot of this and just  don't want to mess up a brand new 35 year old  plane.

I don't know but 1981 is not "vintage" per se. I don't see that it was a popular model, maybe no one on the boards knows about it. I did a search and I don't see that any of the models have rigging. Are you sure it is supposed to? I assume you've done a search of here and RCG?

Yeah, your probably right that no one probably knows. I don't know if it is supposed to have it or not, the kit came without any instruction and a lot of the ones that I saw did have rigging. I probably don't even need it for functioning purposes, only personal preferences. I'm sorry if this post came off as rude, it really wasn't intended to, I've just never had no one reply. I have done a lot more research on the matter and I think I answered my own question. Thank you.

Btw, what is considered vintage? The plane wasn't designed in 1981, the kit was purchased then. I believe the plane was first built in the 30's

I'm not an authority on when vintage really is but they do have official designations. I fly old timer stuff designed back in the 30's (designed as models) I think the newest vintage would be early '60's and back... Good luck with the build.

You can call it whatever your want to makes no differance.

Anyone care to divulge what the model is?

Is it a scale model of a full scale aircraft, if so which one?

As already stated most older scale models, say sixty sized and down were not operated with scale wires simply because of the hugh increase in man hours to pull off and the additional hours just involved in transport disassembly as well as the substancial incrase in drag causing perrformance problems with whatever other performance problems that were common simpy because of weight with tons of detailing.

Having said that I have on serveral ships in the past made flying/landing wires out of monofiliment fishing line but much prefered Spyider wire beceause it looks better the the mononfilament. Even painting the monofiliment was not very satisfactory.

I appoligize. I didn't mean to get any one worked up, I just like the way they look. The model is a Champion aero models co., stampe sv4. .60 size plane. The kit didn't come with any parts list or manual. All that I have is the original tower hobbies receipt, and the picture on the box. I know that the plane doesn't need them, I just like the look. The only thing I was asking was for some ideas.

I have the same kit and am nearly complete with it.  I'm not using any rigging but I am adding the struts between the wings.
There are so many pictures and web sites dedicated to this plane you just need to do a search on the web.
BTW, I am using a Tacon 60 electric motor.  Kind of anxious to see how she flies.  I also covered her with Solartex and WorldTex "fabrics".
Lastly, how is the build going.  Mine was a bear - getting a new set of drawings from AMA helped because a lot on the original drawing was faded.

The build is going well. If I had to guess, I'd say about 65 % done. It's not a bad kit, the plans aren't too bad, and the wood is descent quality. I'm mounting a OS 70 FL four stroke. I think it will do alright. I don't know, maybe I won't install any rigging, I just think it looks so good. Either way, I can hardly wait to fly it. Grumble huh? We should go fly em when there done. I'm right in Bristol. Happy landings.

Simple rigging wire use kevlar fishing line. Make some mounts that pop through the covering that can use some rc clevis' can hook on. Like a one hole on a control horn; I usually try to make them from scrap ply. Make the wires by first stretching the line by taking a length and tying weight to it and hang it up overnight. Take the line and tie or loop the line through the clevis or crimp with a crimp or make one from 1/16 or smaller brass tube; you can hit it with some CA to help lock it. Some people have used boondoggle or elastic dress line. Not 100% scale and you might not be able to do all lines but will add some class to the plane.

I didn't even notice you were in Bristol.  I haven't found a place to fly yet - there are one or two in Monroe but I haven't been to them.  Perhaps we could meet someplace in between when they are done.

BTW, the best thing I've found for rigging are plain old electrical lugs.  Radio Shack, before it went teenie bopper, carried some cheap ones.  For my boat I used picture hanging wire but that might be a little heavy.  Then again, this plane isn't that small - it's just 5 inches from being IMAA legal.

I hope your 70 4-stroke works well.  That's kind of at the bottom end of engines for this plane.  Then again, a 70 today is more powerful than a 70 in 1981 when these were built.  And she is a trainer so you don't have to have unlimited verticle.
