Is there a good kit in the 70-85 inch size for the Embraer Tucano. I have great plans for a larger one but would love to find a glass fuse to speed up the process..

I thought that DL Aeromodels used to have one around 70-ish inches....but they may be just dealing with jets now. http://www.dlaero.com/

Here's another: http://aero-fzd.hypermart.net/emb312.html

I have the T 27 120 size from Prince AirModel in Brazil, @(http://www.princeairmodel.com/aeromodelos/tucano_120.htm). This is very much an ARF - fiberglass body, foam core wings. ready for air retracts - you can see a video of it on the website. The finish is beautiful in the colors of the air force aerobatic team "Esquadrilha da Fumaça".
Vital data -Fuselage: 1.850mm
Wing area: 61,4 dm2 /952 sq.in
Wingspan: 2.250mm
Weight: 6.000g
Engine: 120-180 4T/ 23-50 CC gas
The model is awaiting a Saito 200ti twin, which will fit perfectly inside the long, narrow cowl. Of course, a small turboprop engine would be perfect:-)

Unfortunately the Aero-FZD model is $1300 plus shipping, and though it's probably worth the price but I was hoping for a little less. I think the dlaero link is dead. (Rats!) Thanks for the input though.

I designed my own TUCANO in 72 inch span using 3-view drawings ( very small) from Janes All the Worlds Aircraft 1985-86 page 15.).
The design criteria was to make a supreme touch & go machine, having exact scale dimensions, one piece wing with flap and a dorsel airbrake. The peculiar use meant a tip stall proof machine, for a root chord of 14.75 inches and tip chord of 7 inches.
I chose Eppler 197 15.25% . The incidence is 0 degrees for wing and hor.stab. 1 degree down thrust. no right thrust.
72 inch span. ply and balsa fuselage with ply built in mount. Engine mounted upright for ease of access and reliability.
For rough & go, the retrats were left out and main gear has spring like one used in nose gear.
The major feature/departure has been NASA droop ( not on full size machine) on the leading edge of outer panel. see picture .
For this prupose the wing (foam covered in 1/16 balsa + monokote) was cut in four pieces. Two inner panels with normal E 197 airfoil and two outer panels with NASA droop and extended chord as explained in Andy Lennon's book R/C MODEL AIRCRAFT DESIGN published by Model Airplane News. a 1 degree washout was added. Aspect ratio 1:6.62
Engine is ASP 1.08 with an O.S .61FSR carb. 16% caster oil fuel no nitro. All up minus fuel weight 9 lbs 10 ozs. 28.36 lbs/sq in wing loading.
seperate servo for ailerons. single high torque servo for flaps. Airbrake still being rigged.
Aircraft ( Only one made) flies beautifully. Absolutely no tip stall tendency and slows to a very low speed. Gentle stall with not much altitude loss. V.good spin recovery with CG at 25%. good knife edge.
No mixing on flap/elevator to keep challenge in. High speed flap deployment gives some nose up which settles down quickly. Normal stall deployment speed gives imperceptable nose up. Flaps effective and slow down plane even more.
Airplane has been flying almost every week for last three years.
We have a competition in precision take off, square pattern with required power reductions etc. as per full size, and centre line plus spot landings, and touch and goes. Great fun.

I might convert plans on CAD one of these days.

Amer

The Ardmodel 1/5 is really very nice but again, if you use all their stuff, it comes out about $1200.
Is there a US distributor for the Prince 120 size?

Hi GM1,

I have the DL Models kit and have been comtemplating selling it. I understand they did stop producing the kit to focus on jets. My kit is untouched and is the latest updated version with the landing gear wheel wells precut. If I remember correctly, the wing span is 72". I would sell it to make room for warbirds (latest passion). I had the ARf mentioned above and enjoyed it so much that I wanted a bigger one. Hence, this kit. Like I said, Warbirds kinda pushed everybody else aside for now. Maybe you can make good use of it. :-)

Amer,
VERY nice model! Is the "assistant" a future modeler??? I have the DL kit, retracts and an RCV1.20 for it when I get to it. It's a really nice kit.
I am hoping to do the Brazilian Smoke Squadron scheme with the blue, green and yellow. Am having trouble getting good documentation here for it tho.

Regards,

Commet,
Have you put a price on it or just contemplating the sale?

I could probably let it go for $300 plus shipping.

I got an email reply from PrinceAero in Brazil. They have no North American Distributor but say they will have in the near future. The video of the big Tucano looks good for an ARF.

I found the 120 size on a European web site listed for aprox 850 euros. I wonder who the North American distributor is supposed to be?
