mike68: I had some analog servo humming on my ESM corsair. I slide some thin paper (like a dollar bill) between a flap section and the wing, made sure the paper moved freely, then went to first flap position, checked again, then full down flaps, and checked again. Did the same procedure on all six flap sections. Found a couple of places when a flap section would bind. A little sanding cleaned it up.

This is what I did, And it worked, it took a lot of time, but If I was to ever do it again I would get it the first time.

Thanks for ya help.

Mike

Weird.

I had the same thing happen on my new Z Spitfire. Turned base, lowered flaps and she started to roll. Got the flaps up and landed fine.

Upon inspection, one HS5645 burned up and started to take the other with it.

No binding in the flaps at all. Replaced with analog HS645, no problem.

Sent the HS5645's back to Hi-tech and they fixed them and sent them back with no response what so ever.

There was a simple electronic pass through device published in the AMA mag six or seven years ago that shut the servo's power off at the programmed end of travel. It was plugged between the rcvr and servo. I don't know how to look it up in the AMA archives though. It worked on my B-17 flap system so I could have flaps firmly up and holding with no buzzing or humming. I use analog servos for most scale types. Many of us are locked into the mindset that digital is the only way to go plus way overkill in the high torque requirements available. Neede for jets and screaming warbirds but certainly not for Cubs and the like. Mitch

I totally agree. Digitals are overkill in most warbird applications. I choose digitals because I wanted to sync the flaps together both in travel, end points and speed.

My Futaba 10C dosen't allow me to slow down the servos and I just don't like to rely on a second device to do so.

Put analogs in and have been fine ever since.

Time to upgrade my Transmitter I guess.

Cheers,

Chuck

I too totally agree that digitals are not necessary for most warbirds, big or small. But some how marketing got hold of the new and quite a bit of the old flyers. Some even imply that digitals are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY IN ANYTHING OVER 60" of else your are NOT BEING safe or one is looking for an accident to happen at the field with less than ideal equipment for said plane. WHAT THE HELL .
For the most part you can`t say anything to these people they will knock your head off. The new comers I could understand, but the guys that been around since the 70s, 80s, 90s, should know that before digitals ALL planes , from a Great planes PT20 to a Byron F15 been flying the skies just fine with Futaba 148s in the wings and other surfaces. So now what is so special about today planes that a digital servo is required. Ok for 3D flying I understand and the turbines.
