Status: offline 		I can get 6061 aluminum for you if you want. I used 1/4" thickness and had to file a bit off so it would go into the receivers. My source may have some other thicknesses. I can check.

Thanks for the offer Bob.  I have several sources for alumnium and steel plate but just don't cherrish the idea of grinding off a few thousenths with a hand file.  

The wood ply may still make the cut as I've some treatments in mind and I remember that I flew my 1/4 scaler with the stock spars with no problem for 5 years.   The screw holes rounded out a bit but some CA tightened them up.   This time I'm looking at  a good soak with thinned epoxy and some embedded nut plates.  We'll see.

Those pix are great.  Very red on one of them.

Further info on your cockpit combing if you will.

Status: offline 		Aircraft Spruce has 2024 alum bar stock for about $8/ft for 3/16". I measured my ply joiners and they are 0.200". The next thicker they have is 1/4". Probably will check with my local machine shop to see if they can make them and possibly mill 1/4" to .200". But I know I won't like what they'll charge. Maybe just go with the 3/16" even if a bit loose - it'll be strong enough.

I'm just about done with the basement guest room project so hoping to get back to work on the Fleet. Soldered up the cabanes and landing gear. Next to finish the elev rudder pushrod install and do some reinforcing in some places in the fuselage.

Thanks for the comment.
Because of the terrible drought we had this year all the grass looked like this most of the summer. No rain over a inch since June 20th.

Status: offline 		That is what I sorta expected (Foremost).   I've some I purchased sometime back (not near enough) but still looking for something different.  RCAF motif is my expected scheme in 1/3rd scale.

I may have to drive down to Boca Raton and fetch some rat skins.

Just a quick fyi on the T6 aluminum which you can get from Tower Hobbies made by K&S. Y The part # for strut material is K&S 3070.

Quick question on the fuselage taper into the firewall on the Concept Fleets. I'm building the Ron Weis Fleet scaled down to 1/4 scale. The fuselage does not taper from the front wheels mount into the firewall. From what I see on the Concept Fleets, this area appears to taper somewhat....I don't yet have the cowl, which may give me that answer, but I thought I'd ask ahead of time. Framing up the sides at the moment.

Status: offline 		Yes , there is a taper that is hogged out of the thick fwd sheet.   The fuse sides have the stringers up to about the fwd cabane strut then meet and fair into the solid sheet that will be sanded to taper to the plywood firewall.   I'd wait for the cowl to be more difinitive.

The fiberglass cowls of my 1/4 and 1/3 scale Fleets fit snuggly over the plywood but are held on with screws into maple blocks epoxied to the firewall.

Status: offline 		I found some suitable cockpit combing and some rigging componets at Proctor.   So much yellow  now with a little black.   Top wing done and ready for paint while the lower wing problem resolved and now onto filling the weave with dope.  I love plinking the finished wing fabric.

Bob... can people leave their trailers overnight at the flying field?   I've reservations for a local motel but thought , with the proper locking features, the trailer and equipment should be safe?

I'm heading down to Daytona this weekend to see the new Grandaughter and her family.   Here's to hoping the weather is nice to travel.  5.5 hours last time I did the trip.

Status: offline 		Gordon, wait until you get the cowl before you taper the front of the fuse. The image below shows the difference on the original 1/4 scale Fleet plans, but the cowl has to be fitted, as the taper changes top to bottom.
