Status: offline 		When you were able to split them without someone loosing half their income or a half a mobile home? 

My painting is largely done but done with a brush.   No overspray just drips on the floor.

Status: offline 		Decided to go ahead and cover the tail feathers...for no other reason than to show some progress. Also went ahead and tried the hair setting tape. It turned out to be easy to work with. After one coat of clear dope I laid on the tape. Then another coat of dope followed by some sanding then a third coat of dope. The tape is somewhat fuzzy, but after sanding, it ends up smooth.

The pitch of the pinks on this tape is 7/64 in which would be 7/16 in full scale. Don't know if that's correct or not. Seems about right.

Now back to getting the wings and the rest ready to cover.

Status: online 		Picture taken from yesterday. My buddy's two planes: his 1931 most original fleet complete with haywood starter and his 1929 bird. The Fleeti is blue and yellow.

What is a haywood starter?  Be  a crank or initertia starter?

Status: offline 		Ah...ex-soviet trainers CJ-6 has an compressed air starter.  Pipped to each cylinder for start up.  In fact everything on my friends CJ is phneumatic.  Pain in the butt to prime and then it turns backwards.

Status: offline 		Here is a neat starter setup for a Fleet.  Not part of the plane but the owners mod to keep him far from the prop when starting.   The only battery on this bird is his wristwatch and GPS.

Well, I get error messages when I try to up load a pix.   I'll try later.

Status: online 		the fleet is blue and yellow. i know it looks greeen in the picture but its not. the bird is a lighter blue with gray wings.

Next time I'm with his planes I'll shoot more pictures.

Status: offline 		That is so nice.  Great angle and shows just how small this bird is.

VR/VQ are the newer registration prefixes.   Argentina was R for a while.   VQ is saved for "official Buisness" aircraft.

Venezuala had some Fleets for training.  May have found it's way over the border.   The Fleet in the pix seems to be a Model 10 because of the tailwheel configuaration.   Model 16B has the same rudder combo but it's tail wheel is directly under the rudder hinge.  

Looks like some duct tape used to improve the numbers.

Status: offline 		Ah ha!  I smelled a trout laying out in the sun.   dabrown, on the second photo there is a new registry EC-KHC under the horizontal stab.  Seems the other numbers are photo shopped in or ....  covered up.

EC is a Spain registry.   Still, a great paint mix of silver an Tennesee Red.

Status: offline 		That photo was from Airliners.net. The accompanying information referred it as "EC-KHC Ex LV-ZCM, in it's first flight exhibition". That would tell me the airplane had been registered in Argentina but was relocated to Spain. It also called it a Fleet 10.

While I was checking this out, found another Argentinia Fleet. "LV-ZCP Built in 1937. EAA 2010"

Status: offline 		I'm up to the cockpit coaming on my Fleet. As the pics below show, I had an brain spirt, as opposed to a brain fart. I had trouble with using leather cord with a large needle. I could pass it through the drilled holes in the ply cockpit, but it was hard to pull it through the leather coaming, even with pre-punched holes. What I came up with is to CA the end of the leather cord. This, in essence, was my needle. It threaded its way through everything.

The scriber was used to punch through the leather and also to pull the leather stitches tight after threading.

I bought the leather cord at a sewing store (Jo Anns) and the leather at a craft store (Michaels). I cut the leather into a strip of about 5/8".

Status: offline 		By the way, here is the forward cockpit section consisting of the seat, floor, seat belt, control sticks and rudder pedals with brakes. That hole in the floor is for access to the glow driver adjustment screw.
