Bob, wanted to make sure that I gave a good explanation of my measurement. The 9/32" is the spacing lengthwise between one peak or one valley, to the next peak/valley. If you want me to measure how "high" each peak is, let me know. Glad to help.

Status: offline 		BTW, I also bought a nice set of pinking shears (quite expensive from a fabric shop). That way, you can make the round reinforced patches around bolt holes and underneath the brackets for the N-struts. I also added these around the pushrod exits for the elevators control rods and the pull-pull exits for the rudder. Good reinforcement and looks scale-like as well. You'll pay between $30 and $40 for these.

Don't buy the inexpensive shears like you'll find in some craft stores like Mich_ _ _ _, they could only cut very thin paper, not covering material.

That's my next project at 1/4 scale (132"). I need to draw some plans.

Status: offline 		Cliff Ozier came by my house today with his son. I got to show him how the Solartex looked and showed him the Pink-It rib tape. At least now he can get an idea of what it looks like before paint so he doesn't have to plunk down some money and be disappointed.

I can't wait to get started on it, but the Fleet must be finished first.

Status: offline 		I received the pinking tape order and proceeded to finish the fuse. I had to use white tape as the supplier did not have any natural tape in stock. The wings get covered next and then the fun job of tapeing the ribs and doing glue drops on the full length ribs.

I'm still waiting for my rotary cutter.   I found my old Fiskers and it works well.   I'm still wanting to know the size of the pinking...troubling as it is referred to as "wavy" and the 45mm is the diameter.  We'll see.   I'm cutting my tapes from iron on stuff.

Man, my wings are the size of ironing boards and are sucking up lots of dope.

Covering completed and now on to the doping the weave. Sucks up alot but that is OK.

I started to cut some tapes for the wings , etc. and I'm got the old cutting wheel out and the new cutting mat and all seems easier than I thought.

In 20 or so minutes , I cut enough tapes to do 2 wings and 2 ailerons. I got so infatuated I continued with the ailerons up to and including putting on the knots of RC56. So far so good.

A problem arouse and I'm not sure how to correct it even if I will correct it at all. As the fabric was shrunk down with the gun, the rib adjacent to the aileron deformed and leaves an unsightly bow. I'll be danged if I will uncover and lay in a gusset so I've been thinking of a dowel inserted at an angle from the outside and glued in place. May not make it look better but it won't bow any more than it is.

Status: offline 		Moving right along there, Ray. I'm curious as to why you are using RC56 instead of white glue for the stitching?

I wasn't going to do it because I didn't have any problems with the wing spars on the previous Fleet, but I decided to wrap the inboard lower wing spars with fiberglass where the tongues are located. Instead of using epoxy, I used thin CA to stick it. The CA grabs the wood and fiberglass and makes a stout bond. It doesn't look very pretty, but looks don't count inside the wing.

Previously, the wing tongue receivers in the fuse have been bulked up over what the plans show to prevent them from coming apart due to loading from the tongues. I didn't want to have to re-visit that area after a period of flying abuse.

Status: offline 		Ray, something just came to me. The Fleet that you are modeling, was the fabric stitched to the ribs? The one I'm doing did not have stitching. Screws were used to hold down the fabric.

Status: offline 		They real Fleet I took pictures of, and with the owners direction said the horizontal stab, fin and rudder as well the ailerons were stitched where as the wing was screws into sheetmetal ribs.

As to the box spar beef up , yes. I'll look up my build site for a link but I used carbon fiber tow embedded with epoxy at first but on the later spars I used nylon carpet size twine wraps embedded in epoxy.

I cant find any market 6061-T6 plate for my spar couplers that will fit without shaving the thickness down so I'll figure something else.

RC 56 is more vinyl and survives brushing with thinned dope. An added plus is it holds it's shape better than elmers when applied.
