Status: offline 		I am looking for a Powered Glider. Any suggestions for something RTF and will run on 2200mah 3s Lipo would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to experience a new kind of flight and i think gliders may be calling my name. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. If at all possible could you please supply a link to a website where a suggested glider could be purchased? Have a great day!

Status: offline 		RTF means with servos, motor, ESC, radio, etc in the box. With that you are limiting yourself to a foamie. Get at least a 2 meter with a built up wing and you'll be happier. Something like the Tower Hobbies Vista EP is good but you'll have to put the servos and radio gear in. The stock brushed system works really good on a 3s 2200mA Lipo.

Status: offline 		Anytime I feel like flying fast and cheap - I buy Samurai glider ARF from Hobby Lobby. Spend two of those in a year. Buy $229 version - it has power setup that works really well.

Although you have to have an experience in flying RC to fly Samurai.

$409 for the combo. I've recommended this to several folks who like my NSP Omega II 2M as it's virtually the same airplane which NSP is no longer selling.

The Magellan is light and floaty and signals lift rather than fast like the Samurai above. A 2200 3S pack could be used but I find anywhere from 1000 to 1300 a good size for light thermal hunting.

A cheaper and lighter option would be their "Nelly" but I see it's now out of stock. A friend flys this in alpine conditions and it's excellent for light lift as the wings are very light due to not having servos in them.

I like Icare cause they have good deals and are often cheaper than Skip Miller, Soaring USA or F3X, but there are similar offerings from these dealers as well.

Much depends what you want to do.

Status: offline 		I also have a Magellan and really like it. It is even less RTF than the Vista and a much different glider as it is designed full house with a 4 servo wing. Yes alot depends on what you are really looking for.

Status: offline 		I didn't necessarily mean RTF, my mistake. I have a transmitter and rx already. I mainly want a glider that comes with the motor and esc. I don't mind buying servos but powerplants make me nervous for some reason. The reason i say 2200mah 3s batteries is bc i fly have had parkzone planes and fly 450 helis that i use them with and i would like to keep them in the family. I live in the southeast(usa) so i don't have any cliffs to sail off of. I fly over a flat hay field so idk if i have any thermals overhead or not. I'm still open to any and all suggestions!!! Has anybody purchased a glider from www.hobbyking.com?

Status: offline 		For a thermal (non slope) intro package, it's hard to beat a Parkzone Radian. It can use your batteries although 1300 size is ideal. In the right hands it can even be competitive. Many prefer the 2 ch original to the Radian Pro due to the lighter weight and overall good handling. Check out Paul Naton's mod video :

Status: offline 		I recently purchased an Ogar from the Wings Maker distributrd by Airborne Models. It's has a 99 inch wingspan with a 480 motor using 3s 1800 to 2600 Lipos. It comes with the servos installed and is pretty much receiver ready. The wings come in a wing bag. It's a bit pricey at over $200 but it came postage free. That saves you over $30 as it is a large, heavy package. The boxes are heavy-duty and it also has a wheeled stand for paved runways or just for display. I hope to fly mine in a week or so. There was a review of this aircraft here on RCU.

Just found one on the LHS shelf, which took me about 1.7653526 seconds to take it. Bought 6 Hitec HS-82 servos to go with it.

Motor- Plettenberg Orbit 25-16 brushless on 6s2200mAh Gens Ace 60C lipos and 14x10 carbon folding. @1600W.
ESC- CC Ice75
BEC- CC 10A

Will post as I assemble.....

Status: offline 		My Mystique has Arrived from Horizon in great shape. It is a beautiful thing. The wings are some of the nicest I've ever seen. I've spent a while fondling it and have read the build booklet a couple of times. The most difficult will be the wing controls. I ordered the folding prop at the same time and it is also nicely done with holes in the spinner for air circulation. I still have to order the servos and have a nice Power 25 and 60AMP ESC just waiting to be installed. This will be a winter project as I have to get my Wings Maker Ogar sorted out. I went out today to fly it for the first time but lost the hook that allows you to connect the wings. Looks like I have to make a new one.

Status: offline 		I too agree on how nice the Mystique has been assembled. The Plettenberg Orbit 25-16 motor is a perfect mount.

Feels like I'm grounded because the work load on the job is keeping me from devoting time to do the build until late this weekend, ugh!

I was able to pick up the 4 wing servos from the LHS this afternoon. After more calculations I have settled in on 6s2200 60C lipos and a 13x7 APC folding prop.

This will allow me to reach a lower auw of @84oz since the current draw will be under 55A and well below the maximum suggested rpm of 145000/dia in inches..... so the 13x7 will be @9500 rpm, well below the 11100 max rpm.

So many numbers to crunch at the bench.

Status: offline 		The Mystique has an all-moving horizontal tail. There are two steel rods the two halves of the tail slide onto.

The description of the model, showing the model's features, shows the two halves being placed into position and says they bolt on. That is a design often used and is often referred to as
a 'stabilator'. Look through the Horizon Hobby website for their writeup on the model. The picture shows the two halves being slid into place. The larger rod is the pivot. It is the main support and is what the stabilator pivots on. The smaller rod aft can move up and down and is what the elevator servo controls.

Status: offline 		so the tail halves pivot on the big cordon rod . and the big cordon rod is to stay tight in the fiberglass fuselage and also what is a glue stick .just thing to understand and this part is not clear .... for me
