Guys, I was anxious to see what the true weight of the R90 would be after installing my gear. My R90 came in at 18.2 without the prop (still waiting for it to arrive). For your reference here's how my R90 is equipped to give you an idea of how the weight was achieved.
 
*DLE 55RA with stock muffler
*Hitec HV servos on all surfaces
*Metal servo arms (except on throttle)
*Syssa IBEC
*Fromco Badger
*Hobbico 3200 MAH LIFE Battery
*Vess Balance Ring
*Stock fuel tank
*Stock spinner
*Spot on Battery, Ignition and Receiver trays
*Spot on Wing Bolts
*Aeroworks Metal control arms and titanium pushrods
*Manual choke
 
Also, with my battery at the suggested location, the plane balanced at the recommended CG with just a hint towards being nose heavy which should be perfect. As for the spinner to cowl gap, I have about 1/8' gap between the spinner and cowl using the DLE 55RA stock stand-offs. I have pics of the scale and spinner gap. However, for some reason RCU is not allowing my uploads. I will try to get the pics up later.

Anything under 20 lbs is good to me!! A tad nose heavy I can deal with!! Like the old saying, a plane that is nose heavy will live to fly again, but tail heavy will have a very short flight!!! Remember please post your flight report!! Also I will trade you some rain mix with snow for the sunshine you will have for this weekend!!! Do we have a deal??

I don't think I can maiden this weekend due to other commitments. I have next Wednesday through Friday off so I plan to maiden on Wednesday (week from today). I will of course post my flight report after the maiden.

Status: offline 		Spridal, Looks great, but you may have a problem with engine temp, having the cowl enclosing most of the cooling fins. You may want to baffle or cut an openning in the front of the cowl. Just something to be aware of.

Thanks, I do agree and I actually created a duct that will carry cool air over the unexposed area of the engine. I will take a pic of inside the cowl so that you can see how it was done.

May i ask why you want to go electric? Seems to me that you will sacrifice either performance or in-flight time vs gasoline. What is the advantage of electric power?

If you have all your information IE: motor, esc, prop, plane weight, battery info.  You can go to the Castle Web Site on the Motor Calc and it will tell you.  I have a 50cc size Reactor with 2 6S 40C 5000mah in series and I get about 7 to 9 minutes depending on throttle management.

Status: offline 		Guys, this plane will do fine on 12s. In fact tower hobbies had one at the neat festival. I have a bunch of 6s 5000 lipos so I'm good to go. Performance should get me 7-8 min of nice flying.....just looking for anyone who either built one like this or has info on the electric one flown at neat.

I think the question S&S asked was essentially how many times lipos can be cycled before they require replacement, not now long will they power the plane.

Status: offline 		  Here are a few pics of my Revolver before decals.  As you see I used the stock choke servo mount and mounted the throttle servo in the motor box.  You will need 2 pieces of 1/2" basswood square stock to space the servo away from the side.  I used screws and glue to attach it, glue on the inside and screws thru from the outside.  Works great with solid linkage and a straight shot to the throttle.  For the choke rod I used a piece of music wire from the choke arm, and ran it thru a figure 8 tie wrap on the motor standoffs to the left front opening of the cowl.  Then once you get it situated tie wrap the figure eight above and below the wire to hold it in place.  I have this on a couple of my planes and it works great.  Same idea as Aeroworks uses.
  All that is left is decals, control throws and balancing.  Hopefully this coming weekend will be a maiden flight day, depending on the weather.  I will post final weight once it is ready.
I am also using G-Force 2S 3300 receiver batteries with MPI regulators.  The ignition is powered by a 2500mah 6v Nmh battery.
I would rather of had the DLE 55RA and the rear muffler but the DLA was on the bench and you can see the clearance I had to cut in the cowl but it still looks good.

Sure, I still have to pull the cowl off again to secure the fuel vent line.  The tail linkage is alittle further back in the posts Page 8 post 191, I used Aeroworks horns and control rods.  Savox all around except for throttle.  They are 146inoz at 6v so for me that will be fine.  I fly more pattern and sport type flying so they should perform well.  I have heard good things about Savox so we are willing to try them out!  I did opt for the Sullivan 24oz fuel tank as the stock one is a little huge and the inlet is not centered and I like the backset on this tank, again it was on the bench and ready to go.
  I really like the look and the style.  Its looks fast just sitting.  I plan on using the listed CG to start and then work from there!  I think it will be a good looking bird once the decals are on!  We will see!  And I will post pics prior and during the maiden and let you know how she flies!

If so (and you said you fly pattern-like), do you see any assymmetry of the movement of the elevator halves? That is, do they move in plane with each other?

  Yes as per the instructions, but turned them toward the front to use the longer Aeroworks control rod.  I tried to keep the moment (not movement) "the starting posiition of the arms the same" viewed in a horizontal plane.  I haven't checked it yet but just eyeballing they seem to be matched.  I will check and let you know when I set the control throws!  We shall see!  Looking at the arms depicted in the instructions you will note short arms and I would bet they are close to being equal in moment on each side.  Moving the linkage inward toward the center to achieve an equal "starting point" would decrease any assymmetry and should come out the same.  However I am not an engineer, and I may not be explaining it correctly.  In my theory if they are equal in length of the arm and are close to being even looking straight from the side the throws should be equal. And I may be wrong.  I will measure them and find out and let you know.  That is an excellent question! 

(9:50PM)   RESULTS:  The measurements are in MM's.  With the plane sitting on a firm mount, not tailwheel.  The measurements are as follows:

                      Righthalf    Lefthalf
Up elevator:         225          225

Centered:            170          170  (both halves centered prior to measurements using sub trim)

Down:                 115          115

As you can see they are equal.  No throws or travel has been set.  This is with subtrim to get the halves equally centered on each other.  WOW, I am amazed as they came out exact and I checked three times to make sure it was correct.  I am using 1 1/4" SWB arms, using the 2nd hole from the end and the ball at the last hole on the control horns.  I am pleased!  However I appreciate your question, now we know!.

Status: offline 		Ed, Looks great! Enlarged all of your photos; great work. Really like your trimming of the cowl and the neat interior layout. This plane will definitely be as or more popular than the venerable Super Sportster, as a great all around flyer. Bet it will float in better than the Rev 70.

Thanks WC, that was my question, I should have been more clear. My concern for Lypo over gas is the long term replacement cost of the batteries after they have reached the end of their service life. I already have over 70 flights on my EF Extra, after only 3 months, so service life would be an issue. Need replacement after 100, 200, 300 flights?
