Hey Tom

Just fill the rear of the floats with helium! Bring it out to the reservoir and we can sink her there!

Well I tested with Moving the CG forward, I added 3.4oz of lead atop the dummy engine. It made no difference, the floats just don't have the reserve buoyancy to support the weight of the plane properly. That couple with the scale like tapered tail of the floats make it drop there easily or at least first.

I was going to taxi test, but I'll have to wait to do it where I have a recovery boat if needed,,

I'm really unhappy I choose to be the guinea pig, good news is I have the skills to fabricate a set of floats, I feel sorry for any newbies who hope it will be good out of the box

Built a 100'' version a long time ago, 9lb with a FS90. Taxiied on grass with those flat bottom floats, never needed water...never actually got wet...the surface area of the floats and the AUW meant that the loading on the floats was so low that it could be operated of grass.
Evan, WB #12.

I used to work at a field called Cumbernauld. One of the chaps had a Cub and, when summer arrived, he'd fit floats and take-off, using a wheeled dolly ... he'd be away for months, flying out of the Lochs.

But, when he returned, the mechanics took a fire hose and doused the grass alongside the runway ... then the Cub would land on the wet grass. It was a short landing run, but safe.

Wednesday afternoons work best for me. I know Monday and Tuesday look good next week. Maybe could slip out then.

To me the floats look like have wrong shape in front of step when comparing to the drawing of the full size W-29. On the full size plane, the taper starts right at the step.
From what you have, I would move the floats back by 1” to give more floatation volume behind the C/G.

Yes, it's not perfectly scale in many areas,,

If I were to move the floats aft, I'd have to adjust the step location, I'd also be concerned it would sink by the nose on throttle up, I'll test as is first and we'll see

Not all seaplanes have the C/G exactly on the step. Try to fly model with the step behind the C/G.
Other option you have is to move the C/G forward by ½”.

FYI,
I'd been running this on rcgroups too and a couple guys there have the same experience with sitting low in the tail, but say it flies fine off calm water.

Weather has been crappy,, maybe this weekend might be decent for the maiden, we'll see.
